Machine Knitting

I have been Machine Knitting for about 15 years.I currently knit with a Brother 940 Machine which I love. It is an electronic machine and I also use DAK6 which allows me to do some of my own designing.
The little Teddy in the border on this page is wearing a sweater & hat I designed in DAK for him.
Of course,being a bit of a computer nut,I have a lap top computer I use for designing and then down loading to my machine.You can "knit from the screen" with DAK6.
You see the pattern you are knitting and it is much easier to get the lap top in a good position to see while you are knitting.
Contrary to what some people think, you do not just load a pattern in the machine and have it "spit out" a sweater!
There is a lot of work done by the operator of the machine.
The carriage has to be moved back and forth to knit a row at a time.
Decreases and increases are done by hand,and if you are doing cables, the stitches have to be crossed by hand.
I was a hand knitter before I started to machine knit..the great advantage of the machine,as far as I am concerned,is that a row can be knitted so much faster by machine.
I have been having a lot of fun designing and knitting some things for an 18" Doll. I bought myself an "American Girl" doll to use as a model and will give it to my youngest grand daughter when she is old enough to take care of it.

Around Christmas time I am able to sell quite a few of these outfits as this doll is very popular in this area.Most of my friends grand children have them and they are my best customers.
