FIRE TO THE SKY
By Lynnette Snell

You were spirited
red-haired, wide-eyed
and a girl at 15
who could teach the world things.

How to live, how to love,
how to laugh, how to cry.

All things that at 15 the world
would have thought were not yours
to know.
And we told you so.

But in death,
as in life
you had something to say.

And you said it.
As straight forward
up-front
and shocking as
you always had been.

And we cried.
Because for all we said
and all we thought we knew
we let you slip past
in your most awesome moments.

And then you were gone.
Thrown in your place was this teaching.
We hear you, Tiffany.

We live, we love,
we laugh, we cry.

And we open our eyes to the day
and partake - as you did -
in all the glorious scandal
red-haired mischievous ways we can.
And we live.
