This picture was taken in September of 1990, about a month after Henry and I met.  We were both 15, almost 16 in this picture.
When Henry Met Heather
The most important decision in my life, to date, was deciding to go to the mall on August 16, 1990.  If not for going to the mall that day, I may never have met the most important person in my life, my husband, Henry.

August 14, 1990:   My boyfriend, Joe, had just dumped me 2 weeks previously.  I was all bummed out about it, so my friend and neighbor, Kim, thought maybe we should go to the mall.  She asked her mom and her mom wouldn’t let us take the car.  Lucky for me, we had to postpone the trip.

On a side note, I’m not sure why I was so upset about my boyfriend dumping me.  Looking back, he was about as interesting as a lump of  dirt.

This picture of me was taken  in August 11th, 1990. I was wearing this same shirt when I met Henry.
I took this picture of Henry the first time he came over to my house.  He was so cute, I just couldn't stop taking his picture!
August 16, 1990:  We decided to try again and this time, we got permission to take the car- oh joy!  Kim drove as I was only 15.  We started cruising the mall with our big hair and our tans.  I was wearing a little white t-shirt w/ some crocheted lace on it and some matching white shorts (I would look like a snowman in a similar outfit nowadays).   Soon, we spotted 3 guys walking from afar.  We immediately ruled out the shortest one and I told Kim I’d take the next shortest (I’m 5’3”) and she could have the tall one (she’s almost 6’).  We followed them around for a little while and then stopped to lean on a railing (this was a 2 story mall and it was cool to lean on the railing and look at people from above).   Then, the tall guy came over and stood next to me.  I immediately claimed the tall guy for myself.  He was gorgeous!!   His fashion sense was a little off as he was wearing an adidas shirt, reebok shorts, and British Knights shoes.  The tall guy introduced himself as Henry and I just about started laughing- what a dorky name!  We started talking and I thought he was just great.  Meanwhile, Kim was talking with the next to shortest guy who turned out to be Aaron.  We exchanged phone numbers and headed our separate ways as Henry was “looking for his dad”.   Kim later commented that Henry had beautiful eyes.  I can honestly say I hadn’t noticed!
August 17, 1990: I tried calling Henry the next day, but he wasn’t home all weekend.  I figured he wasn’t interested since he didn’t call me.

August 18, 1990: I called a guy from school that I had a crush on and asked him out to a movie.  He was going golfing with his grandpa, so he couldn’t go (I never quite bought that excuse).
