A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU

I want to say thank you to some very special people in Kentucky. Over the January 8 weekend, I was a special guest (along with Sandy Daens, the president of the Marty Robbins Fan Club) at MUSIC RANCH USA in West Point, Kentucky. Two super gentlemen and a most delightful cast performed an outstanding tribute to our guy, Marty, and gave me one of the most enjoyable evenings I've spent in quite a long time. Mr.Rube Yelvington (director and narrator) and Hugh Louden (music historian and narrator), along with Music Ranch's band, The Country Classics (Nashville has nothing on them, they are great!)

The Country Classics have gathered together a series of interesting and entertaining tributes to such greats as Patsy Cline, George Jones, Hank Williams and, as I said, Marty. They put together a more than interesting script, tracing Martin's life and musical career from a small boy in the desert of Arizona to the top of the music charts in Nashville, Tennessee, with interesting musical stops along the way. The show was very well arranged and topped off with some fine singing performed by Paul Penny. Mr.Penny is not a 'Marty' impersonator but his voice is very similar to that of Martin's and he did an outstanding job on all of Martin's songs chosen for the tribute.

Songs performed by Mr Penny included "My Woman, My Woman, My Wife", as well as "You Gave Me a Mountain", "El Paso" and "That's Alright Mama" they were performed extremely well, and very reminiscent of Martin himself.

The 'ranch' had a full house and Mr Penny was 'obliged' to doing at least four encores for a more than satisfied and appreciative audience. I understand that the ranch is planning another tribute on Martin again in 2001 and I am looking forward to attending again. If you missed the show I hope that you will plan on attending next year for you will indeed, get a unexpected pleasurable evening.

Thank you Rube, Hugh, The Country Classics and Mr Paul Penny, along with all the other true southern gentlemen (and ladies) we met who know what southern hospitality really is.
I had a most delightful time.!!!
