What is HEPCA? Continued... HEPCA, with the support of the members, organize on going clean up activities for the beaches and the Islands of the Red Sea. The general assembly of HEPCA includes all the categories of memberships; Individual, Charter, Exclusive, Basic and Associate members. The members nominate 7 members to represent them, these 7 members form the board of directors of HEPCA. The Executive Director of the organization reports to the board of directors. He/she is in charge of the HEPCA support office. The support staff carries out many duties in addition to the installation and the maintenance of the moorings. They produce the members newsletter, maintain the office and the membership files and distribute the incidents report forms to the appropriate authorities. One of the most important duties is making sure that all services provided by the organization are sustainable. HEPCA is working towards its goals of protecting and preserving the natural resources of the Red Sea and Egypt. The unique coral reefs of the Red Sea will always be a tourist attraction for millions of people from all around the world. We will be working with our members on preserving these natural beauties to enable the next generation to enjoy what we are fascinated by, the fascinating Red Sea. of the world, rivaling the Great Barrier Reef. Tourism related developments continue to grow at a rapid rate, in order to accommodate the influx of tourists visiting Egypt each year. According to the US Agency for International Development (USAID), the number of tourists visiting Egypt is expected to reach 5.8 million by the end of the century. Ambitious plans to expand the tourist industry in the Red Sea have advantages which entail economic benefits; the disadvantages are environmental deterioration and depletion of the very resource base that attracts tourists. While diver related tourism offers a tremendous opportunity for developing countries like Egypt to generate income, the complete lack of environmental planning and sustainable development threatens the Red Sea as a natural resource. <===BACK |
