| Nicholas Copernicus contributed that the center of the universe was occupied by the sun. He implied that round the sun revolved the planets and among them the earth, which also rotated daily on its axis. Even with Copernicus’ theory already published, many astronomers still believed that the earth was the center of the universe. Copernicus’ theory was looked upon with great disfavor by the Church. In our modern world, much money and effort is put into our study of the stars. The development of rockets and satellites have enabled us to further understand the world in which we live in and its surrounding planets and moons. We have developed highly complex telescopes that can see into many galaxies other than searching in our own galaxy. But not only do we use scientific instruments, we also use calculations to find the placement of stars, planets, etc. in our universe. But even with the highly developed rockets, satellites, and telescopes, we still do not fully comprehend all that goes on in this universe. It has become almost a sort of competition between nations to see who can develop the most highly advanced rockets and satellites. As we move on in our lives, our technology advances further and further to help us find our placement in this small galaxy of the universe. |
