Mathematics is the study of quantities and relations through the use of numbers

and symbols. Math is by far the most powerful tool on earth. It can be used to solve the

simplest and the most difficult of problems. It has numerous applications in daily

activities. Math has been used by scientists and scholars alike .

Every field of study uses mathematics on a day to day basis. Zoologists can

estimate how long a particular species has to live or even find a means to save it by

breeding the right numbers of animals. The military uses math everyday to make sure that

the they can defend us in a time of crisis. Whether it be by allocating a certain number of

troops to a certain area or writing a program for a sophisticated weapons system, math

protects our livelihood.

There are many applications of math. Computer programmers use mathematics

everyday to write code for their software. Genetics, which some people believe will be

the “programming” of the future, uses math to sort out complex strands of DNA. Stock

brokers, accountants, and economists apply math heavily to their professions. Math also

gives the ability to make complex machinery for the exploration of space.
