What Is Math?

Even our units of time are products of math. One day, which is filled with

seconds, minutes, hours, light and darkness is directly associated with the time it takes the

earth to revolve. Farmers will plant at a specific time of the year based on how close the

earth is to the sun. Because they have calculated how long it will take for their crops to

grow and at what position they will be from the sun at that time. Mariners would

determine their position at sea based on the stars at night and at what degree to turn in

order to get back on track if they found themselves off course.

Math can be applied for figuring your weekly budget, making your days more time

efficient and even in helping you live longer by letting you figure up how much you

should exercise based on your age. The applications of math are endless. It is used

practically, everyday of everyone’s life.

Its hard to imagine a world without math, because it has played

such a prevalent role since ancient times. Although math’s applications have evolved, its

usefulness to what it is applied to will never change. For the most part “seeing is

believing”, but with the applications of math “calculating is believing."
