Professional Labor Support / Doula Northern Virginia

Traditionally, women have always had the support of other experienced women to draw upon during their own birth experience.  This support has enabled timeless generations of birthing women to recognize and tune in to the natural, physiological processes her body is undergoing.  She is able to experience the birth of her child to the fullest! For many women, today’s birth experience has become an assembly line production.  Multiple procedures are applied to every woman, and babies are delivered according to the clock, not the mother.  It’s all too common to have an epidural, pitocin, an episiotomy, or even a cesarean section.  Unfortunately, these procedures are now considered normal, and a woman’s instinctual knowledge of the birthing process is rarely unleashed.  Your birth does not have to be that way. The presence of a labor assistant/doula will provide an atmosphere for your birthing abilities to flourish.  While your midwife, obstetrician, or family practitioner will supervise your prenatal care and birth, your doula will ensure that someone is always available to look after you emotionally and help you to attain the birth you desire.
