Bev's Journal Continues... After This Pictorial Interlude |
We visited the Mast General Store (est. 1883) in Valle Crucis, TN...a bare spot in the road in the hills of East Tennessee. There are branches of the store in Asheville NC and Gatlinburg, TN, but you MUST visit the ORIGINAL! |
They have stuff in this place I haven't seen since I was a kid - wonderful, old-fashioned toys, old-timey household goods, candy and soda pop (Grape Nehi) that I didn't even know still existed. I do NOT know how they find anything though--it is CRAMMED full! |
You can 'set a spell' at the table on the left and have a friendly game of checkers. And I'll bet the big old woodstove on the right puts out plenty of heat. The wood floors, like most of the store, appear to be original, and creak like anything. |
The Mast Store still serves as the town post office, and I had John pose by the wanted sign. I couldn't get him to smile though; he said later that dangerous criminals don't smile as a rule... |
