Papermaking at Carriage House:
Paper in 3 Dimensions

Here are two of the forms we learned to make in the workshop -- using wire mesh screening sewn together to make a form (a mug), and on the right, creating a form by soldering pieces of galvanized wire together (a lampshade).
This form was made by wiring or tying pieces of reed together.  The reeds need to be soaked first, to make them pliable; when dry, the form will be rigid.
Others in the workshop chose to wire or tie together sticks and twigs to make forms.
Some used a combination of materials to make the form, in this case, a stick and wire mesh.
Carriage House is a working artist's studio, and papermaking supply house, located in Brooklyn NY.  It was founded by Elaine and Donna Koretsky.
