Beatriz Andrade de Amberman

Beatriz Andrade de Amberman is the founder, director and choreographer of the Hispanic Folk Ballet. She was born in Guadalajara, capital city of the state of Jalisco, Mexico. She has been actively involved in dance since the age of four. Her early training begun with classical ballet and flamenco. By the age of twelve, she was performing under the direction Dr. Miguel Velazquez modern and Mexican Folk dance with the Jalisco State Department of Fine Arts in Mexico and later with El Ballet Folklorico de la Universidad de Guadalajara under the direction of Rafael Zamarripa. He became a force of inspiration in Mrs. Amberman's life thru his love of Mexican Culture and his research of Mexican Folklore.

Beatriz Amberman attended Law School at the Universidad de Guadalajara. Her major at Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara was in languages. In 1980, She earned a diploma in Dance Instruction and Choreography from the Universidad de Guadalajara.

Degollado Theater in GuadalajaraBeatriz Amberman has a strong sense of community involvement. She has been promoting Mexican culture in Tidewater area since moving to Virginia eighteen years ago. She is a broadcaster and host of three bilingual radio shows: "Hispanic Symphony and Folklore" on WHRO 90.3FM National Public Radio for Hampton Roads, "Latin Hope / Esperanza Latina" and "Mexican Fiesta" both on WNSB 90.1FM Norfolk State University.

Beatriz has been for five years an appointed member of the Virginia Beach Human Rights Commision until the year 2000 and a member of the statewide Association of Human Rights Commissioners. In addition, she is the Executive Director for the Multicultural Alliance of Virginia.

Beatriz Amberman has involved herself in as many multicultural activities in Virginia and North Carolina. Driven by her deep appreciation and respect for people of all cultures and backgrounds.
