Cassydorus, Siege of Constantinople
Date Description Source Reference
Early 14th century Black and white picture. Two bell tents on left.

Ball apexes, no roof edge delineration, guy ropes or pegs. Bell tent on right is decorated with multiple sets of three white dots in a triangle

"Siege of Constantinople" in a copy of Cassydorus manuscript; French, early 14th century. While the two heavily armoured crossbowmen on the left have later conical forms of great helm, those of the horsemen on the right may be early forms of heaume a vissere with moveable visors. The marn on the fare left also wears a scale cuirass; perhaps the artist's attempt to indicate an alien or 'oriental' figure, or perhaps reflectin current experimentation in armour.
