Prof.
Gaurang Jani is a professor in the Department of Sociology of Gujarat University. He has been involving in the
Jyoti Sangh HIV intervention programme amongst commercial sex workers (CSW)
since its inception in 1997. He recalled at that time, he faced a lot of
hurdles and misunderstandings. One of his colleagues in the academia asked, “You
are a professor in the university. Why do you involve yourself with the sex
workers?” Nonetheless, he foresaw the importance of HIV prevention amongst this
vulnerable high-risk group. He persevered. Today Jyoti Sangh has rapport of
over 3050 CSW out of an estimated number of 4000 (possibility boundary:
3500-4500).

Gaurang
Jani教授是古吉拉特大學社會學系的教授。自1997年Jyoti Sangh的商業性工作者愛滋病干預計劃開始以來,他就參與其中。他回憶起當年,他面對很多障礙和誤解。有學術界的同事問他:“你是堂堂一個大學教授,幹嘛要與這些性工作者為伍?”然而,他預見在這高危易受感染群體中進行愛滋病防預工作的重要性,他堅持下去。今天,Jyoti Sangh已接觸超過3050個性工作者。(全市約共有四千個性工作者,可能性界乎於三千五至四千五之間。)
