Jyoti Sangh

My footsteps in India

This was a series of travel journals that I sent to my friends after my three-week journeys in India. I visited two cities—Ahmedabad and Mumbai. This was a fantastic eye-opening experience which prompts me to think again a lot of important questions in wide range of topics, from nationalism to modernisation, from poverty relief to HIV prevention policy.

These ten newsletters were written from late June to late July, 2005. They formed the Part One of my original writing plan. I intended to write Parts Two and Three which would describe my journeys in Mumbai and Pune in the former and my deep reflections upon my Indian experiences in the latter. However, I never got the time to write them. I do hope that in the near future, I would be able to distillate and crystallise my experiences thoughts and turn them into essays better than that in Part One.

Part One

1.      Arrival at India

2.      Ahmedabad

3.      Jyoti Sangh

4.      A compassionate professor

5.      A social worker who is very kind to me

6.      Auto-rickshaw

7.      Gujarat University

8.      Why Indians continue to use English today?

9.      Languages of India (1)

10.  Languages of India (2)
