Houston Metropolitan
Baptist Ministers' Wives Auxillary
Our History
Houston Met Wives began in 1993 as an auxiliary under the HMBM Conference, president and founder Dr. S. J. Gilbert, Sr.  The group's first president appointed was  Mrs. Elna Kennedy.  The organization was restructured in 1998 with Eleanor Hillard being appointed as president.

The goal of the Ministers' Wives is to support the gospel ministry by promoting the teaching of Christ with acts of service to our churches and communities.  The organization has sponsored events such as:  Funds to Hurricane Relief, Food Bank, Flood Relief, Dr. S. J. Gilbert, Sr. Endowment, Annual Back to School Uniform Drive, Women's Shelter Blanket Drive, and Christmas Toy Drive.

The ladies held their first women's conference in 2001 and have successfully continued it.  The organization since has put into place a Jail Pen Pal Ministry to start in 2003 headed by Linita Chung.  A Book Review Club  for 2004 is being planned and will be headed by Sharon Robinson.

Joint events are shared with the parent body organization such as:  Ministers and Wives Retreat, Thanksgiving Celebration, Christmas Dinner, Christian Education Institute, Scholarship Banquet, and MLK Birthday Celebration.
