Hockey Road Trip, Fall 2004
Week One - Southwest
Sat, 10/16 - Fri, 10/22
Tuesday, 11/9 continued
After the game, I headed north on I-85 to Greenville.  Got stuck in traffic.  Five hours!  Turns out a tractor trailer had driven into Lake Hartwell on the bridge over the lake on the GA/SC border.  When I did finally get to cross the bridge (4 am in the morning), I noticed a crane was trying to pull something out of the water and a truck that said 'Dive Team.'  I figured something bad had happened.

Here's the

Week Eight - Midwest
Sat, 12/4 - Fri, 12/10
Saw the Knoxville Ice Bears play the Huntsville Havoc at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum.  The league they play in is the SPHL (Southern Professional Hockey League).

Notes:

- In the SPHL, the players are not required to wear the half face shields on their helmets.  In fact, during warm ups, some players did not even wear a helmet.

- There was touch icing in this league.  I understand there is a 3 on 3, 3 minute overtime if game is tied after the end of the 3rd.  Then, a shoot out.

- The Thunder Stix man was sitting behind me.

- They celebrated Veterans Day at this game.  A prayer was said for all the veterans (first time I had witnessed that at a game).
Week Nine - Las Vegas
Sat, 12/11 - Fri, 12/17
Week Ten - California
Sat, 12/18 - Fri, 12/24

Knoxville has been home to a team in many different minor leagues.  Here, banners are displayed from just a few they have been a part of.
There were many penalties in this game.  This photo shows the remains of a fight.  Gloves and sticks all over the ice.

You can also see the Ice Bears are wearing special Veterans Day jerseys:  stars on the shoulders, red stripes on the bottom and red, white, and blue stripes on the socks.
