Welcome to the NEW home page for

The Young Leader Webring

Because of the pressure of A levels, the original founder and Webmaster, Sophie, has decided to hand the Young Leader webring over to us to run. If you are already a member of this ring - hello! Glad you could make it! If you are still thinking about it - do join us!

Holderness Rangers has eight Young Leaders amongst its members, as well as three adult leaders, so we have plenty of experience between us.

You do not have to be a Young Leader to join this webring - our aim is to unite ALL ages of Guides and Girl Scouts to provide help and support for each other, as well as a pool of resources to help Young Leaders.

If you wish to join the Young Leader Webring, your website must follow a few simple rules:

1. It must be a site that is suitable for all age groups. This is a Guides and Girl Scout webring, so your site must be suitable for viewing by surfers as young as five or six.

2. It must be of interest to members of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, such as an individual Unit/Troop website, Guide/Girl Scout event, Guide/Girl Scout Resources etc.

3. Your site must already be up and running. It's OK if you're still adding to it (in fact, regular updates are a "plus,") but it is very disappointing to visit a site and find lots of "under construction" signs and dead links.

Sites which break any of these rules wil not be admitted to the Ring.

To join our webring, just click here. If you already have a Yahoo ID, you will be prompted to enter it : if not, you are a "New User" and will be given a simple form to fill in. Once you have a "Yahoo ID" the "join form" is child's play.

You can choose your link from any of the styles below : the top one is the original version as designed by Sophie, the middle one is very similar but with new buttons, background etc., and at the bottom is a new design suitable for sites for all ages of Guides/Girl Scouts.

Since Yahoo took over Webring.org they have changed the system drastically and have intorduced their own standardised Javascript "Nav Bar." This is undoubtedly very simple to install (provided your browser SUPPORTS Java) but you do NOT have to use it if you don't want to. The old HTML links still work, so if you want a different design just copy the HTML from the source* of this page; the buttons and backgrounds are already linked for you so all you have to do is put in your site ID, name and email address, at the asterisks. Also, you now need to let me know you have joined, since Yahoo/Webring no longer bother to tell me.....

FOR EXISTING RING MEMBERS:
How to edit your webring information
now that Yahoo & Webring have merged

First click HERE and scroll down to the Ring Members bit at the bottom : type in the ring ID ( ylc ) your site ID and your password (I hope you know these as I no longer have any way of finding them for you.....Yahoo/Webring will tell you if you ask them nicely.) You will then be taken to a Yahoo/Webring sign-in page: if you already have a Yahoo ID, just sign in as normal, otherwise click on Sign Me Up and follow the instructions from there; you will be taken to a page where you can associate your site with your Yahoo ID (their idea, not mine!) - click on the top option; they will then congratulate you for being so clever - ignore that, and click on "My Rings" at the bottom of the page: you will then get a list of all the sites and webrings you have associated with your ID (until you associate them, you can't edit them!) - go to the extreme right edge of the page and there, alongside the ring name and your site name, in tiny tiny print it says "manage site" - click and you're in!!! (But be prepared for glitches - the system is still very new.)
