If you look at the Star Wars saga as a whole, instead of two trilogies, you may see that the "good-guy/bad-guy" idea changes slightly. Star Wars always had a lot to do with corruption, the Dark Side, and that kind of thing; now, even more so. Not only do we witness the fall of Anakin and the Old Republic, but also the Senator-turned-Emperor and the Jedi caste itself. No longer do we have a definite "bad guy" (Emperor and Darth) or "good guy" (certain whiny farmboy), but we have numerous heroes becoming villainous.

This is not to say that there are no baddies to start off with. From what I've heard, TPM is going to involve an evil society equivalent to today's Federal Trade Commision. There's also the guy with the lightsaber staff, and somebody named Sidious. Not to mention the two real villains that span the saga, namely Jabba the Hutt and Boba Fett. Supposedly, Jabba appears in TPM, and Rick and George have said that Boba Fett will definitely play a role in Episode II. This is a good idea, primarily because Boba Fett was the most overwhelmingly popular character in the Classic Trilogy.

In the Classic Trilogy, the main characters were obviously Luke, Han, Leia, and Darth. The other main characters, which were not as "main" as you may observe in the end credits, were the two droids, Obi-Wan, Yoda, Tarkin and the Emperor. Only further down the hierarchy do you get Jabba, Boba and Wedge Antilles. As far as I know, in TPM and possibly the rest of the Prequel Trilogy, the main characters are Liam Neeson's character, Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Queen Amidala. The baddies will be the Senator, Darth Sidious and Darth Maul.

When you put the two together, what do you get? The story is now about Obi-Wan and Anakin/Darth; Yoda, the Emperor, the droids and Luke are the supporting main characters (whatever that means). As mentioned earlier, Jabba the Hutt and the notorious bounty hunter Boba Fett may also be major-minor villains like they were in the Classic Trilogy. Which is probably a good thing, since I never thought Luke was much of a great character anyways. But that's just my opinion.
