The year of Amway Malaysia’s 30th anniversary. The year Leehom turns 30. Pure coincidence, fate, and just the usual craps – it didn’t really matter to most of the HOManiacs members who attended the Amway National Convention last Sunday, cos’ the only word that popped up on our minds that day, was “LEEHOM”.
Albeit the “weirdness” of having to accustom our ears to hearing “Amway! Amway!” instead of the familiar words of “Julia! Julia!” that is sung to the melody of well, “Julia”, honestly, we did have a rocking good time with Leehom on Sunday night.
Let’s not even talk about the 10 hour wait we had to go through. And out of that, 6 hours were spent listening to some “believe-in-us” talks which were well, least inspiring to the bunch of hungry and tired peeps like us. Gruelling speeches by CEOs, VPs, MDs and GMs which started with “30 years ago…” didn’t really help either.
But nonetheless, if it weren’t for these “30 years ago” history, we most likely wouldn’t have been able to see Leehom perform on our shores for the 2nd time this year. Short of saying another tour of concert is much anticipated here in Malaysia, this night’s short performance helped fill-in the gap for a bit. And for that, Amway, we love you. Very much. Oh, and the Commonwealth Games-like fireworks, parading and stints – magnificient.
The highlight of the night (other than Leehom, of course) was when HOManiacs performed a “Mission” of which I shall simply term as a “G4 Mission”. What happened was due to the abundance of empty seats on the side of the stage (reserved for Amway VIPs, and we were initially seated much further away), the whole bunch of us HOManiacs decided to take a risk and leave the original seats our asses have been stuck to for the past 6 hours, for what we “hoped” to be better seats in the house. You see, the move required getting OUT of the stadium and re-entering via a different entrance.
So imagine this – 40 odd HOManiacs who rose quietly and quickly from their seats, one following another, moving along in quick steps, silently, no words, no time allowance for doubts – and all we had in mind was to “move quick”, and FOR GOD’S SAKE PLEASE DON’T LET LEEHOM COME ON STAGE BEFORE WE SETTLED DOWN.
Although I had to single-handedly grab our humongous club banner as I moved along with the flow, I just could not help but notice the silence we actually managed to keep as we moved to our next settling ground. All I heard was foot steps, quick foot steps, and with all of us towards one common direction, one common aim – we just needed to get there quick and not get kicked out. Personally, it was quite an interesting phenomenon, sorta reminded me of some G4-movie or the likes. If only we could have captured a video of that short 5 minutes stint, that would have been totally awesome.
Hunger + Tiredness + Running + MORE “believe-in-us” talks for another 1.5 hours = very very impatient HOManiacs.
11.45PM. Freaking 2-hours past the initial schedule, they finally finished their talks/speeches/rants, and have invited Leehom on-stage. I have no other words to describe the scenario among the audiences the moment Leehom started his performance, other than “havoc”. Everyone just basically lost control of themselves and got hysterical. Ahhh…the power of a “superstar”.
Leehom performed a series of songs, spoke English most of the time though he was speaking very little on this night, possibly because it was absolutely getting late on a Sunday night (midnight, I mean) and had to briskly perform all the songs on the rundown.
By the fifth song or so, he even teased the crowd saying “Aren’t you guys tired? It’s getting late – I should stop now”. And as the crowd roared in disagreement, he then said “Well, OK, one more, or maybe a couple more.” Well it turned out a “couple” more meant going beyond two. Hurray for us!
Not only was Leehom sweating profusely (it was a very warm night at this outdoor stadium filled with 43,000 people), us HOManiacs were, needless to say, sweating like a pig. By now, most of us had basically managed to squeeze into the left side area of the stage. With the help of our club banner plus our largely recognizable yellow foam-hand, we caught Leehom’s attention when he walked towards the end of the T-stage. I think for a moment we were oblivious to the fact that this wasn’t a Leehom concert.
But I wonder what the audiences from the other races thought of Leehom and his performance (since they pretty much comprised a big percentage of those who attended the convention). It would be so cool if we were to have Leehom on the cover of “Eh!” the Malay entertainment magazine, or appearing on the renowned Astro Ria Malay-channel, or even Astro Vaanavil the Tamil-channel! After all, he did do a collaboration with our very own Pop Princess Siti Nurhaliza a couple of years back – something which I thought was very refreshing and unique – they should consider working together on a song or something.
Also, I have to apologize to the Amway-guy who apparently came to KL all the way from Shanghai for the convention, who pleaded to be given one of our foam-hands. Sorry man, our foam-hands are too precious to be given away! At least you got to take a picture with our club banner =)
Yet again, gratitude goes to Amway for bringing Leehom to Malaysia. The 10 hours wait was almost forgotten when Leehom came on-stage. Almost, that is.
A big “thank you” goes to all the HOManiacs members who attended the event. You just made a crazy night even “crazier”!
Ta!

1) JULIA
6) FOREVER LOVE
7) KISS GOODBYE
1) Your Song
2) Julia
3) Forever Love
2) 和在云顶的演唱会演唱[不可能错过你]的模式是一样的“and lower and lower and lower…and higher and higher and higher”当音乐从新开始的时候,全场的观众又尖叫了。
Encore!”
