A-arm INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS (-43)                                                                    CT-14

READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE PROCEEDING

NOTICE: Do not insert PVC bushing until A-arm is correctly fitted.

Select one lower A-arm for installation.

Grind off the ends of the 2 in. inner bearing mounts to correctly fit between the mounting fins.

Remove equal amounts from both bearing mounts. (Removing material from only one mount
will shift the A-arm off center and adversely effect steering)

Shim with 5/8 in. washers to reduce any play introduced by removing material as described above.

NOTICE: If space requiring shims exceeds 1/8 in. do not use washers.

Cut 2 pieces of 1 in. tube slightly longer than the area to be shimmed.

Using the alignment fixture used during manufacture, align the short piece with the ends
of the bearing mounts and tack weld it to the bearing mount in 2 or 3 places. (Welding around
the entire circumference is not required.

Grind to fit, dress all edges.

Insert PVC bushings in the inner bearing mounts. (Insure that bushings do not extend beyond  the ends
of the bearing mounts.  Trim as required)

Select one spindle assembly (Drawing 105)

Fit outer A-arm bearing mount to spindle assembly U-bracket using the procedures above.

Mount the A-arm to the forward frame and spindle assembly with 5/8 bolts. (Do not secure with
nuts at this time)

Repeat the above procedure for the other lower A-arm.

Identify the A-arms as left and right with tags or engraving ,etc.
_____________________________________________________________________________________

Select one upper A-arm for installation.

Fit the inner bearing mounts to the mounting fins as described above.

Insure PVC bushings and secure temporarily with 5/8 bolts.

The heim bearing should fit centered between the mounting fins on the spindle assembly.

If the heim bearing does not center between the fins. Remove the bolt holding the lower A-arm
outer bearing to the spindle assembly.

Elongate the U-bracket holes in the proper direction to allow a slight rotation of the spindle assembly.

Reassemble the outer bearing and check for proper positioning of the heim joint, repeat as necessary
for proper alignment.

Shim the heim joint on both sides with ½ in. washers for a secure and centered fit between the fins and secure with ½ in. bolt.

The A-arm/spindle assembly should move up and down from the horizontal 3 or 4 inches with minimum
resistance or excess play.

Repeat this procedure for the other upper A-arm.

Identify the A-arms as left and right and which side is the upper surface since the upper A-arms can
be mounted with either side up. (Since all A-arms are custom fit, you do not want to interchange them)
_____________________________________________________________________________________

After painting  the frame and A-arms and spindle assemblies we are ready for final assembly.

NOTE: Do not use washers under the 5/8 in. bolt heads or the nuts.

Secure the 5/8 in. bolts with fiber lock nuts.

Tighten the 5/8 in. nuts only until the bolts will not turn with hand pressure. Tighten 1/8 turn more.

Tighten the ½ in. bolts in the heim joints securely using fiber lock nuts. Do not ever tighten as this
will warp the mounting fins.

Check for free movement of the A-arms.

This completes installation of the A-arms.
