Ep2

     Flashback – Stone comes home with friends, ready to go to the Jets game. He goes in to find Rosalyn, finds the house smashed up. Roz is upstairs, sobbing in the tub. “Don’t touch me, Zeke”
      Stone is eating. The Devil shows up, tells him he should spend more time hunting souls. On the news, they see the story of a young couple, the Nowacks. Janice was raped, and the Tim is very hostile to the media. The Devil asks if the look in Tim’s eye is familiar.
      Gilbert sneaks up his mother to surprise her in the garden. She is happy to have him back. Gilbert says he got three new lawn mowing accounts that day. Their neighbor hears them talking, and asks, “Didn’t you say your son was dead?”
      Stone goes to the crime scene, and tells Tim about his own wife. Laura Miller, a rape counselor, comes out of the house and tells Tim to stay with his wife, and asks Stone about how things ended up with his own wife.
      Gilbert tells his mother not to tell anyone that he is back. God, he explains, does not like having his miracles publicized. She asks him about heaven, and he tells her it was wonderful, except that she wasn’t there.
      Stone goes back to the Nowack’s house. Janice tells him it was not her ex-, like the police suspected. Her rapist got crazy when she clawed his eyes.

     Gilbert is seen mowing lawns. Then we see him climbing in a window, wearing a devil mask. The woman in the house hears the noise and goes for her gun. She shoots him, but he is not hurt.
      Stone visits Laura Miller, Janice Walker is there also. A new call comes in, and Stone goes with Miller to the crime scene. They get a report back from the Nowack attack, the material under her fingernails was dead skin. Marie says that her wedding ring was taken. Stone gets an idea from this.
      Stone goes to Nowack’s house and asks Janice to see her hands. She is wearing a ring, and Stone is relieved. As he goes to leave, she asks “He took her ring too, didn’t he?” This of course has a double meaning to Stone, as it applies to the new victim and his wife. Janice admits the ring she is wearing is not her wedding ring, but her husband hasn’t noticed yet. Stone now knows who the rapist is. He asks who does their lawn, and she tells him a guy named George.
      In an alley, Stone vents his anger.
      Stone visits Father Horn at a church picnic. He needs to talk about the case, about his anger.
      Stone searches for ‘George Smith’. He finds one of his new customers, a woman (Laura Innes) and a quick walk around the house finds the unlocked window. Stone stakes it out, and that night Jax comes in the devil mask. Stone shoots him in the eyes, but nothing happens. They fight, but Jax runs when sirens approach.
      Stone visits Father Horn again and tells him the whole story. He says he was so angry the first time, but it is not the same now. Horn says that his true sin was that he enjoyed killing Jax.
      Stone visits Jax’s grave and discovers that his mother still brings flowers. As he walks back, the Devil pulls up along side him. He tells Stone that he added a “twist this one time”.
      Stone knocks on Mrs. Jax’s door, introduces himself as ‘George Smith’. Mrs. Jax still thinks the best of her son. She tells Stone about how Gilbert’s father left, and took her wedding ring. Jax comes home, and they fight, ending up in the back yard. Tim Nowack shows up, threatens to shoot Jax, but can’t do it and Jax knocks him out. After Jax taunts him, Stone sends him back using a gardening spade. Mrs. Jax comes out and realizes Gilbert is gone. “He hadn’t changed one bit.”
      The Devil compliments him on his anger.
