The story begins with Van running a simulation with the Blade Liger, trying to break into a base. Obviously, he passes with flying colors. Afterwards, Colonel Kruger tells him that he can't teach him anything more, and Van takes off back to his home, the Wind Colony. When he gets there, he meets a "mysterious stranger" and a red organoid. He also meets up with Fiona and Doctor D on the way. Abruptly, a Stealth Viper attacks Wind Colony and Van heads out to fight him. The red organoid appears and merges with the Stealth Viper, making it twice its normal size. Van defeats it, and receives orders that he is to be part of a unit called the Guardian Force, that is responsible for keeping the peace.
Episode 36, Sniper
Van's first mission as part of the Guardian Force: check out bandit activity. Van, Fiona, and Zeke head out and meet up with a group of people trying to recover mines in the field. Later, as he is walking back to the Blade Liger, another guy shows up that says he is a dectective and that the group of people is really part of a group of bandits trying to recover Republic gold. This guy shows Van his new zoid, the Gunsniper, and Van infiltrates the bandit group. As soon as they find the gold, the bandits split up. Van goes after the Command Wolves, while the Gunsniper goes after the leader. Later, Van finds out that the Gunsniper and the bandit leader are really partners trying to make off with the gold. Van defeats them.
Episode 37, The Blue Devil
Van's next mission: investigate some ruins that might have a clue to Zoid Eve. When he gets there, he finds all the men are gone, and the zoids have a Command System Freeze. He finds a woman named Reese (sp?) and she seems to have serious issues. Van goes off on his own to investigate, and finds the soldiers from the ruins. He is told something along the lines of, "She gets inside your head..." Back to Reese and Fiona. Reese turns to Fiona and messes with her head while Zeke fights off a blue organoid (Specular). Van jumps into the Blade Liger and threatens Reese, but she gets in her handy Double Sworder along with Specular. The churchtower bell begins ringing, and revives all the Command Systems in the defeated zoids. Van aims at the bell, but then realizes Fiona is tied to the church. Van shoots anyway, and destroys the bell. What do you think happened to Fiona? She lives through it, and Reese runs off.
Episode 38, Dibison
Van's next, next mission: Stop another group of bandits. Van heads off again. When he gets to the town, a man w/ the Guardian Force named Thomas Schubaltz "captures" them. When Thomas realizes that they're with the GF, he lets them go. Now, they go after the bandits. Thomas pilots a Dibison with a system called Beek. (sp?) When Van and Thomas catch up with the bandits, the bandits are using a magnetic shield to deflect enemy fire. The shield is "equipped" on a Gordos, so Van runs in and destroys it, making the remaining bandits easy targets for Thomas and the Dibsion.
Episode 39, The Blind Enemy
Van and Thomas meet up again in order to stop a new group of bandits. They are attacked by Helcats, but the Helcats run off. It seems that the Helcats are part of a larger, more organized group of bandits. Thomas tracks them using Beek. Van and Thomas try to sneak into the bandit camp, but are caught by the man Van met in Wind Colony, Hiltz. Fiona and Zeke show up and everyone runs for their lives. The Helcats attack again, but they make it to their zoids in time and defeat them. Hiltz goes off somewhere to sulk.
