My Mission

This site is, has been and will always be, dedicated to the sharing information, completely free of charge, with anyone and everyone, in an effort to encourage and promote interest in the history of, not only the Hotaling family, but in this great country, and the role all of our families have played in its development.

Much of the information contained within this site is donated to my by many different sources, most of which I can not possibly personally verify its legitimacy. Other sources include message boards, genealogy websites, library records and others misc. sources as well. I simply gather information and try to organize it in an effort to make research easier, yours and mine, so feel free to share any and all the information within this site, in any way you like.

Some of the other sources are individual researchers who have generously shared their work with me, as well as the NY Genealogical & Biographical Society, which published an in-depth article in 1970 on the family, called "Mathys Coenradtsen Houghtaling of Coxsackie NY and His Descendants", which is the basis of my work, on which I added to, all of the rest of my research. Also, a well known article called "Anna's Diary", which is very informative as well. See our Article's of Interest page for links to both of these articles in their entirety, as well as, links to many other fascinating letters, photographs and such. Our database page offers links to our online searchable "Family Tree" gedcom file, which is hosted by "Rootsweb.com", as well as, Militia Muster Rolls, Interment and Census records and more . We offer a Brief Family History, Online Research Tips, as well as a brief history of My Ancestral Line, which includes two Mohawk and one Seneca Indian's, of whom I am very proud to be a descendant of, as much if not more so, than my European ancestors.

Please do not assume any information you find on-line [including information from this site] as anything more than clues, to help you find the REAL proof, proper documentation from the "Source", be it government, church, business or whatever. Although most info is accurate, there's no way to tell the difference, so to be on the safe side, treat everything as suspect.

Houghtaling "Huftail" Hollow Cemetery Project
Now called Houghtaling Hollow, this land dates back to the late 1700's or early 1800's and is the final resting place for many Houghtaling patriarchs. Here is a collection of photographs of an on-going project to restore the famous family burial ground in Delaware County, NY.
Rick Hotaling
has not only single-handedly taken up this cause, but is kind enough to record and preserve his work in these photo's and has agreed to share them with me, so I can share with you. So please help support his endeavor, and thank him for his work to help preserve our family history.

- Contributions -

Although, this project was made possible by people like yourself, who have allowed us to add their "branch" to our family tree. To them, I am deeply appreciative, and I welcome yours as well, including any documentation, photographs, as well as, gedcom files or whatever.

Besides the info that has been donated by others, I have devoted literally thousands of hours to this site and to the research associated with it, and I share everything with everybody, completely free of charge, and have no sponsors, and have NEVER accepted money from any person or organization.

Also, I am trying to gather info on Hotaling families
that no longer live in New York State,
in an effort to organize and track the family migration from NY.
If you would like to help, please contact me
