Chapter 25
Simone suffered many days after the release of Master Colin.  Her body became wracked with illness unknown to her.   She would wake daily to be consumed with excessive bouts of nausea.  Lord Alixandre knew this was not some wretched disease that had become of her.  He knew that she was with child but he could not let on for fear the world would consider him less of a man knowing that it was not he that gave her this precious gift.  They however would know that she was with child soon and he could not have that.   He would not be able to  hide it forever.  He so desired an heir but he would not have one that beared no resemblance toward his name.  He must take  action to relieve her of a child that did not come from his bearing.   What he did not know that she was going to make it all too simple for him.
She scanned the dimly lit halls to make sure there was no one to stop her this time.  She was going to do it.  She was going to make her escape permanent this evening and there was not a single soul that could stand in her way. Not that she could confirm as of this point.   She lifted her skirt and scurried down the lengthy corridors.   She stood staring out into the black waves with their foamy white caps being the only distguishing feature between it and the land as the moonlight was her only guidance. She could no longer bear this burden.   She knew this is it howit was.  How it should be.  What good was she to him if she could not afford him of this one thing?
"Do not let me curtail your demise my love,"Alixandre's voice turned Symonne from the angry sea's grip.
" I cannot give myself to you in the manner you wish to be given my lord."
"Come now dearest.  I gave unto you my riches and my love.  All you have bestowed upon me is the deepest of agonies."
"You bestowed nothing upon me but the richest of pains.  You destructed what was pure and whole of my lifeforce.  That I cannot forgive you for.  You are a man of ill will and will never know the meaning of the truest of loves."
"But that is where you are wrong my angel.  I have known of the purest and most generous of loves. They give of themselves freely on most any occasion."
"They are nothing but wenches paid to render their services.  I cannot live having the knowledge of your misgivings knowing what I now know of love."
"You speak of love as though it were something you were allowed to have.  You are a woman.  A bride given of necessity, not of love."
"I rue the day God wills an heir to your name."
"God has punished me enough by giving me a woman that cannot bear my name."
"God has punished me for giving me a man of  ill will."
"Remedy you of that I can.  No longer shall you bear the burden of the earth carrying your weight,"he stated as he backed her toward the cliff.
"If you value you yours, you will stop now," the unindentified voice urged into the evening's air.
And if I do not take heed of  your command?" the defiant young man inquired.
"Then you will only have but God to answer to."
"Then I pray he will forgive of me for what I am about to incur,"he said turning back to the young woman teetering at the edge of the cliff.
"Colin!"she beckoned as her feet came out from under her with the slight shift of earth plummeting to the rocks below.
He shoved Alixandre aside and caught her arms.
"Colin."
"Release her or you will have me to deal with,"he felt the cold steel tip of the blade in his back as his grip held steady upon her arms.
"You take her life and you can steal mine alongside it.  I shall not live without her."
"But you must be punished for your deeds."
"For my deeds?  I gave her what you could not."
"Colin!"she urged as the point pressed firmly against the material of his shirt.
"Hold on my fairest.  I won't let you go."
" I beg of you.   We will take leave of this kingdom and never speak of this in return for her freedom and savior,"he spoke up into the cold bronze glare of the man holding him prisoner from his beloved
"I cannot do that.  You partook of what is rightfully mine,"he growled as the cold steel tip penetrated Colin's body.  The last voice Colin heard was that of his beloved's sweet angelic tone crying for his help and he had been defeated.  He had sentenced them both to death for an unforbidden love.   A love for which he held no regrets.  A love that would be forever theirs.
The End

"The end?"Kevin threw the book across the room."This can't be the end,"he growled to the empty room.  He had remained in town a month to the day.  Why he was still here he didn't know.  Perhaps he hoped that she would find her way back to him; not the other way around.  Maybe it was his love that kept him here.
"It won't,"Symonne's apparition appeared before him.
"And what do you know?"
"I know that you can save her.  You sacrificed your life for me once."
"I sacrificed yours as well."
"But it will not happen this time.  I assure you of this."
"You know of this?"
"Once you have saved her my soul will rest.  I cannot until you rescue her."
"But she thinks I don't love her anymore."
"She knows for you beared your heart the night you left her.  She does not believe your heart has taken leave of her."
"Then how can I save her?"
" I must take leave of you.  This is the last time you shall lay your gaze upon me. Follow your heart for it your guide to her rescue her."
