Chapter 5 |
She sat on the living room floor with the cordless in one hand and the business card in the other. She'd been contemplating for quite some time whether or not she should call. Was it truly fate that had brought this man into her life? She wasn't sure. She could be making the biggest mistake of her life. She could also be making one by not taking this chance. "So you gonna call him?"Kelly inquired as she flopped onto the floral print slate blue couch in front of the television. It was old and worn by time but it also had the sentimental value. It was where she spent many a night dreaming up far off lands before becoming one of the best selling romance novelists around. "I don't know." "You've been holding onto that thing for like an hour now. What's the worst that could happen?" She raised a knowing gaze toward Kelly. "I still can't believe your still on that whole destiny/ fate kick Simone. Come on. You really don't believe that this man is your destiny?" "I believe he's some part of it. I don't know how to explain it but when I met him on that flight, I knew something was very different about the way I interacted with him. I've never been very forward with men and I don't know, he just made me feel at ease. A comfort I've known before." "Would you shut up and just call him already? You're beginning to sound like one of your stories,"Kelly urged as she tossed a pillow from the couch. "Excuse me Miss"I can't wait to read your next book"?"Simone responded by returning her friend's gesture. "I'm gonna throw this pillow again if you don't pick up that phone and dial that number right now." "Give me one good reason." "Because it's your destiny,"she mocked. "Now you're going to get it,"she flung the phone and card to the coffee table and grabbed a pillow. She started attacking Kelly. Side to side the pillows swung against the opposing force as both squealed with laughter. Kelly finally got the upper hand and tumbled Simone to the floor."No!"Simone squealed as she lay helplessly under Kelly's control. "Now call him. If you don't you'll regret it for the rest of your life." "I don't know." "Did you see the way that guy looked at you in the airport Simmee? Those gorgeous green eyes?! Shit! He is it girl. You have found your prince charming." "Naa,"Simone shook her head disbelievingly. "Yes,"Kelly returned. "Call him before I hurt you,"she threatened playfully with a pillow above her head. "I'm your friend. I wouldn't lie to you about that girl. Now go,"she released Simone from her trap."Set destiny in motion,"she said leaving the room. Simone picked up the phone alongside swiping the card from it as well. "Hello?"he inquired on the other end. "Kevin?"Simone responded. "Simone?"he inquired hopefully. "It's me." "I was beginning to wonder if you were going to call." "Why's that?" "Well I still wanted to talk to you about your book and I was beginning to think you were going to dismiss me as just another prospect." |
"I never ignore my fans." " I can relate. So tell me something Simone." "What?" "Where do you go for really good food around here?" "What are you suggesting?" "Dinner. Perhaps a movie." "When?" "Well if you're free tonight. I was thinking about sevenish." "You had this planned before I called." "Guilty but you won't hold it against me will you?" "No. So how are we gonna do this?" "Well I was thinking you could pick me up being as I don't have a rental yet." "That's fine with me. I'll be there at seven then. See you then,"she hung up the phone."Yes! Yes! Yes!"she squealed with delight and fell back onto the couch dreamily. "He said yes?"Kelly rushed back out to the living room. "He asked me. Yes! " "I have not seen you this psyched in a long time." "It's weird. It's really weird. But for once I think you're right." "Never doubt your friends." "Don't get ahead yourself Kel. It's only dinner." |
