On February the 2nd, China celebrated their New Year, here are some pictures of a traditional New Year celebration (though done on a much smaller scale than in China), that was put on at a Chinese restaurant near us. A local Kung Fu class (team, whichever) put it on. They had drums and cymbals, soooo loud you couldn't hear anything else. It was soooo cold that day that I could hardly feel my fingers to work the camera, but it was worth it!

This was at the start, and no, those aren't dragons, they're lions.

This would've been a much better picture if the sky hadn't been overcast. *groan*

Here the two larger lions sort of fought, and the green was doing obeisance, I think.

I took this while the lions paraded into the restaurant to further terrorize any patrons who thought they escaped. The red ribbon-looking things are firecrackers they set them off when the lions came back out, and there was a thick cloud of smoke that like to choked you-->

<--An unlucky bystander who taunted the young lion one too many times...
After the lions finished, there were tae chi <sp?> and kung fu (I think it was kung fu) demonstrations, but my pictures reeked. I have several more pictures that someone else took, (they're much better than these), but I don't have them scanned....
