TIPS & HINTS......... On my journey, I've learned some things that have been valuable to my successes. I'll begin sharing them here so that maybe you will find something that helps you, something that gets you past a "pothole" in your journey, something that causes a "lightbulb" to come on for you. Let me know if you've learned something that others need to know!!! Feel free to email me your tip/hint and I'll check it out and consider adding it to my list.

"Weight" Watching with God "Yet those who WEIGHT for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and not get tired; they will walk and not become weary." (Isaiah 40:31, NASB, with a play on a word by Cynthia.)

My Weight Watchers Pages: Celebrations - BRAVO!!! stars received during class. Personal Victories - I CAN do this and here are times when I prove it to myself. Photos - Watch the ME hidden under all this fat evolve. Walking With Jesus Daily - A place where we can gather to encourage each other. Weigh Ins - It is only a number and it is a gauge as to how I'm "working" my WPs. "Weight" Watching with God - My WW story.
SCALES -- The scales are NOT the judge of my success each week. I may have had a great OP week, yet the scales do not show a loss. Keep staying OP, eventually the scales will have to give up the smaller numbers. Do keep in mind, however, that scales can provide valuable feedback. If they continue to climb upward or hang the same, bring in your journal and let your leader look at it. There may be something that you don't realize you are doing wrong. OR, there may be some helpful suggestion(s) that your leader might be able to make.
OVERNIGHT -- I did not gain all of this weight over night (although it may seem like I did) -- I will NOT lose all of this weight overnight.
GOALS -- Set realistic goals. You can not lose 5 pounds every week.......
MULTIPLE SERVINGS -- Just because one of something equals 2 points, doesn't mean that two of that same thing equals 4 points. Even "0 POINT" veggies would eventually equal some points if you ate a bucket of them. Remember we are still to watch our portions. If you want to double or triple your serving, then take the numbers for a single serving and multiply it by the servings you want to have. Use your POINTSfinder and figure the points from the multiple serving figures.
POINTS -- Don't ever, ever trust someone else's figuring. Do the math yourself!!! Always check the POINTS for yourself to ensure accuracy.
FATS -- Don't "de-fat" your daily menus. Your system needs some fat in it daily to keep your metabolism running and to help with skin "elasticity." My leader recommends 2-3 POINTS per day in fats.
NEW BEGINNINGS -- IF/when you go over your POINTS for a meal/day, remember that each new meal/day is a new beginning. We probably got to where we are today by giving up and not starting over every time we messed up; by not getting up every time we fell.
|
|
MOTIVATION -- Motivation. How long can YOU stay motivated to keep doing what you know to do in order to keep losing weight? Motivation doesn't last......neither does bathing. SOOOOOOOOOOOOO, bathe daily and do something to get a new "dose" of motivation daily. Look at where you WERE before Weight Watchers!! Look at how you feel after losing a few pounds and especially that first 10%!!
THOUGHTS ON FAILURE -- Don't worry about failure.......worry about the chances you'll miss if you don't even try. You will never fail as long as you get up one more time than you fall down. If you go off program and gain back the weight you lost, you call yourself a failure. You failed to lose your weight. But, how about if you stay OP and lose all your excess weight?? Guess what, you're still a failure---you failed to stay fat. We get to determine what we fail at. THAT was a "AH HAAAAA" moment for me!!!!
WEEKLY CLASS ATTENDANCE -- No matter how I feel about my previous week, I WILL always go to class unless I am out of town or have a work related conflict. I have made some special friends at my class and it is good to see them each week and visit with them. If I'm looking for a particular item that will enhance my WW journey, I ask about it at class and typically someone has found it somewhere in town.
ASK FOR HELP -- I have learned that when I'm struggling, I need to ask for encouragement and/or help with whatever is "bothering" me. My leader or other class members typically have experienced what I'm experiencing and have some good BTDT (been there/done that) advice to offer. ALSO, I have some BTDT advice to offer others, so I speak up when others need an encouraging word or two.
FINANCES -- Money seems to often be an issue. Do I have money to "throw away" on joining a class? No, actually I don't. HOWEVER, I have found that the money I spend on class membership USED to be spent on binges, fast food, and larger clothes. So, I reached a "financial DUHHHHHHHHH" and determined that YES, I can afford the class membership and the benefits it provides!! Good thing I've figured this out because it is time to buy another pass and the checkbook looks scaryyyyyyy!!!
