La taxonomía y sistemática de la Batracofauna chilena (no existen las salamandras ni los ápodos), está razonablemente bien establecida. Formas (1995), indica que en Chile existen 42 especies nativas y una introducida (Xenopus laevis). Se consideran dentro de 4 familias: Bufonidae, Leptodactylidae, Rhinodermatidae y Pipidae. De estas cuatro familias, una de ellas es endémica (Rhinodermatidae), y otra es exótica (Pipidae). En total, hay 14 géneros y 43 especies. Existen 33 especies endémicas (76,7 %), 3 géneros monotípicos (7 %) y una especie introducida (2,3 %).

Este Web site está en marcha blanca. Solamente es posible acceder a la información de la familia Bufonidae por el momento. En una próxima actualización se ingresarán el resto de las familias que conforman la batracofauna nacional.
