It is sad, but I didn't even hear that the kids were doing a live tour until January of 2000. You would think that a huge KITH fan would know of something like this months before, but I am an ass. I got lucky and actually got a ticket, turns out I got REAL lucky....my seat was on the third row. Woohoo! The show here in Austin was Feb. 4, 2000 at 7:30pm. I got there early, stood in line forever, got inside, and watched the great preshow presentation. When the "Kids" finally came out, everyone in the audience came unglued! It was wonderful to see so many devoted and enthusiastic fans screaming their heads off....afterall, I wouldn't want to be the only one freaking out. haha. Of course, the entire show was friggin' hilarious. They were really on the ball. The skits were all of their best, I think. Now time for me to tell you how I came to talk with some of the "Kids". I must say that I didn't really speak with Mark....but I did say something stupid to him! haha. He was standing a few feet away from me right before he did a skit with Bruce about a new and improved Jesus, I was the first to see him standing there, so in all my glory I looked at him and said, "Hey! Mark McKinney!" DUH! Like he doesn't know his name!? He looked at me,with a grin, and said, "How are you?" I was about to answer, but my announcing his name only prompted the other people sitting around me to start talking to him, (again, DUH!) so he couldn't have heard another word I said. haha. That's about it with Mark....am I a dork or what? Ok, so after the show I was determined to get autographs and meet Kevin, so I went outside and waited. And waited. And waited. ;) A lot of other folks left, but guess what? I waited.A bunch of others waited with me, so at least I had people to talk to. After about an hour, Dave came out. He was with his girlfriend, and they were headed toward their car. So we all started yelling, "DAVE!" He looked at us with tired eyes, and a face that said 'I just want to go hang out some where and relax'. We kept yelling, I guess because we are all insensitive. His girlfriend gave him this cute look, I guess she thought he should say hi to us. So, Dave came walking over and said, "Hi, team...." . I was first to say, "Dave, can I have your autpgraph?" He smiled and said yes. I asked, "Can I get a picture with you?" He said, "Of course." He asked how I was doing, (small talk), borrowed my pen to sign other people's stuff, was very kind to everyone, etc. At one point, some girl said, "Dave, what are you going to be doing later? There are lots of pretty girls that would love to meet you....". I was thinking, 'Hello? His girlfriend is standing right there, Miss Rude.' Dave looked at his girlfriend and said, "Honey, can I go meet some girls later?" She smiled and waved her hand and answered, "Oh, sure. Go ahead!". I laughed. His girlfriend was so cool, not to mention pretty. After all the fan greeting, autograph signing, and small talk...Dave and his girl walked thru the crowd, down the Austin streets, with their arms around each other. I thought it was one of the cutest things I have ever seen. :) |

After Dave left, we all just stood around, waiting to see who would come out next. After another 30 mintutes, Bruce came out. We all cheered and he came right over to speak with us and shake hands, etc. I asked him for his autograph, he said, "Of course." He asked how I like living here in Austin, if I had a good time (I assume during the show), how I was doing, and was all around super friendly. I got a pic taken with him, and after that he went on signing stuff, smiling, shaking hands, and being wonderful to his fans. I backed off, and then started wondering if Kevin was ever going to come out. I let curiosity get the best of me, walked right back up to Bruce, and very nervously asked him, "Bruce? Um....do you know if Kevin is still here, or if he'll be coming out soon?". Bruce looked at me very sweetly and said, "Oh, Kevin left right after the show, he's really people shy." He really looked apologetic for Kevin's leaving (so cute). I thought, what the hell....I took a fan letter I had written to Kevin out of my pocket and asked,"Could you give him this since I can't? It's just a fan letter...it's nothing crazy. You know, just questions about his movies and future plans...." I know he could see my heart sinking because I wasn't going to meet Kevin. He smiled and took the letter, and then said, "Sure, I'll make sure he gets it." Then after a pause he added, "I am going to read this, you know." We both started laughing. I said 'Nice to meet you', he said the same, and he went off to greet more fans. (p.s. Kevin never answered my fan letter....I was very sad, still am a little) | |||||||||||||||||||||||
A few minutes later, Scott Thompson came out. He got a ton of screams as well. He came over and met with all of us, there was more of the autograph signing. I asked for his signature, he smiled and asked how I was doing, then asked if I enjoyed the show, I answered, "Of course, it was great!". I took a picture of him, and got his autograph. He was very nice. Someone asked if the "Kids" would ever do another TV show, and he hinted that there was 'talk' about it. Man, that would be so cool. Anyway, that's my story of the night I met the KIDS IN THE HALL. I hope I didn't bore you to death! |
