The Boston Pierces | |
|
The newest branch of the Pierce family is the Boston Pierces (initially known as the Massachussetts Pierces until Amelia, the family matriarch, got tired of spelling out Massachussetts). The branch has only three members; Amelia, Derry, and Belinda. The eldest (Amelia) is twenty-three. The youngest (Bel) is thirteen. As Derry and Bel were both minors at the time of their disownment, Amelia adopted them both. The causes for their disownment were varied. Derry was too liberal and a blood traitor by cheerful association with mudbloods and half-breeds. He also disgraced the family by getting sorted into Caelum rather than Aether. Belinda and Amelia both acted improperly for their gender, though in different ways. Belinda got in many fights, stooping most disgracefully to muggle fistfights in her second year. Amelia refused to marry and insisted on having a career. Any of these could have been overlooked, but together, particularly combined with their conspiracy to elimate Derwent Pierce the First and Derry's unfortunate choice of a Luzaiya spectator to bat a Bludger at, it was determined that they best be sent away from the family. While it was a true break from the New Hampshire branch of the family, the three were not required to drop their surname 'Pierce'. In truth, the Boston branch is still closer to the New Hampshire branch than the California branch is, particularly since Amelia and Druscella still correspond directly with each other. Regina is forced to get her news of the Eastern branches through Berta. Amelia also receives information about the Western branch through Berta. If any of the other Pierces were to come across any of the carefully warded missives delivered between Druscella and Amelia since the disownment, they might begin to wonder if maybe Druscella had dealt her granddaughter a service rather than a punishment. If she weren't so young, they might even have begun to worry just whom Druscella was grooming to take over the family when she dies. |
