We used to meet in an ex New Zealand Railways 50 foot
guards van which has most of the inside space taken up with an HO gauge layout.
Unfortunately Ian Sandford who owned it needed to convert it into cash to
finance improvements to his 101/4" gauge railway. The successful tender was by a
group who are setting up a settlers museum in Stratford, Taranaki. It was sad to
see it go but we have since discovered that although it was built here in the
Addington Workshop, the van spent most of its working days in Taranaki. Here it
is arriving at its new home.
And here it is six weeks later Sept 30, 1997 with the exterior painted and repaired and all suspect tongue and groove boards replaced. Note also the extra strip of beading around the bottom of the coachwork. |
