The Study
Computer Hardware and Software
This web page was created on a Pentium-class computer (Cyrix P200 chip) with 48MB of RAM and a 6.4 GB hard drive running Microsoft Windows 98. FrontPage Express (part of Internet Explorer 4.0), ACDSee32, and WS FTP 95 were the main pieces of software used to write, test, and upload the page to the Internet. Microsoft Deluxe CD Player helped maintain my sanity while editing the page.
The biggest headache I had while creating the page was being careful about case-sensitive file names, and file names that don't contain spaces, special characters, or are longer than 16 characters. GeoCities is picky about what sort of filenames it will allow.
Other great pieces of software include the following - download evaluation copies today if you are running Windows 95 or 98.
- Net Term - great telnet terminal program
- WinAmp - needed to play MP3 files
- RealPlayer G2
- mIRC - how to chat on the Undernet, and download stuff at #mp3cafe...
- ICQ - get ICQ, so you can catch up with your buds while you're surfing the net! ICQ99a is stable now, and you can get the ICQ Plus Pack version 2.01, which allows you to have really cool skins, on your ICQ program.
- Once you have ICQ, you'll want to personalize it with real names instead of "uh-oh" online alerts. Get your name files at babynamer.com
Studies in Information Technology
I'm taking the Computer Based Information Systems Program (CBIS) at the University of Victoria, through distance education. As of this writing I've completed seven courses of the program. I have subsequently found a job working as a systems analyst within the BC public service.
