Karen Van Hollen Award

Karen Van Hollen came to us in 1998 after skating with the Mommas & Poppas out of St Thomas. Not long after, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Over the next 5 years she showed all of us what strength & dedication is all about. She always had a joke or smile to offer to someone who was having a bad day. She remained a dedicated member of our team, supporting us from the sidelines even when she could no longer skate.

Each year, a member of the Port Stanley Waves Synchronized Skating Team is presented with $100 towards their next year's skating fees and the trophy. Christmas Festivities

Every year Port Stanley kicks off the Christmas Season with Dickens Days. The weekend festivities begin Friday with the lighting of the village Christmas Display. Father Christmas comes to town amidst a spectacle of lights in the evening parade which winds through town & culminates at Mackies. Here one can warm up with a mug of hot chocolate & enjoy Christmas goodies while the children have their pictures taken with Father Christmas.

2003 Port StanleyAgain
2002 St Thomas- This year St. Thomas decided to have a night time Christmas parade to coincide with the lighting of the lights in Pinafore Park..........and we were there!!!!
The parade was a great success, the floats were beautiful and lots of people braved the cold to line the parade route......and it was very cold!!!!
2002 Port Stanley We're giving it another go...........this time with generators - 2 of them!!!!
Xmas 2002 was much the same as last year - very cold & windy. But this year we had 2 generators so had lots of lights & trees on our float. It looked great & we had a great time. Again Mackies welcomed us with hot chocolate, Xmas goodies & fries.
2001 Port Stanley
For the 2001 season, the Ice Breakers joined in the festivites by decorating a float for the parade. Spirits were high even tho it was very cold & the wind threatened to blow everyone & everything right off the float (and did have some success). We also ran into a snag when our generator didn't show up.........OOPS!! So parade watchers were graced with the singing talents of the Ice Breakers who, by the way, know very few of the words to even our most favourite Christmas carols. They could hear us even if they couldn't see us!!! But we showed our spirit, sang our hearts out & handed out candies to the children. Mackies was a welcome sight as we all rushed in to help serve hot chocolate. Of course, we also had to have our picture taken with Father Christmas!!!!

NOTE: Next year remember a generator for the lights & music.
