If They Only Knew
The basement of the Best house, better known as the Casbah club was filled with kids as it usually was on Friday nights. There was a small stage in the corner, which was actually just a chalk line drawn on the concrete floor, but it surved it’s purpose well. All around people were dancing and chatting in small groups, but it was absolutely packed none the less.

In a corner of the room gathered around a small table that was littered with empty coke bottles sat a small group of teenagers. Two of whom were necking shamelessly like rabid bunnies.

"That’s disgusting" muttered Gabrielle. She was sitting with her arms crossed glaring at her friends. "Shaz, cut it out" she whined.

"Bugger off Gabby" said the guy that Shaz’s face was attached to.

"Oh Charlie" groaned Shaz

"Oh my god, Sharon" groaned Gabrielle, shaking her head and using her friend’s real name.

Sharon pulled away from Charlie and grinned sheepishly. "Sorry" she said, not sounding at all apologetic and latched herself right back onto Charlie’s face.

Someone cleared their throat behind Gabrielle. She turned slightly to look up into face that was slightly familiar and yet she couldn’t place it. She was struck by how *big* his eyes were. Not in a freakish way though, in a sort of nice ‘I could stare in them for hours’ sort of way.

"Er, sorry… to interrupt" he said, looking bemused "But d’you know where George is?"

"Yeah" Gabrielle nodded and inclined her head towards the stairs "In the loo"

"Oh great, I’m Paul, Paul McCartney" he said extending his arm to shake hands with her.

She laughed "Oh *You’re* Paul. I’ve heard of you. Gonna let Georgie in yer band are you?"

Sharon removed hr face from Charlie’s again "Oy, what’s this?"

"Paul, Shaz" said Gabrielle waving her hand vaguely "Shaz, Paul"

"Great to meet you" he said, just as someone else called his name.

"Paul, fucking get up here man" said a boy in a leather jacket and jeans. Gabrielle remembered him from Penny Lane, geh, John Lennon. What a nasty bastard.

"Gotta go, luv. If you see George will you send him back" asked Paul as he backed up towards the makeshift stage.
"Sure" she said, waving slowly. Shaz and Charlie went back to snoging furiously, so Gabrielle decided to find something to drink. As she made her way through the sea of people someone caught her arm.
"George?" she exclaimed "Get back there and find Paul he wants you for something"
"Yeah I will Gab" he said glancing up at the stage, the Quarry Men had just launched into ‘Roll Over Betoveen’. But John as so drunk he was missing most of the lyrics. Paul had to fill in most of them for him and seemed to find it all rather funny. The rest of the band didn’t look so happy with it all. "Gab?"
She diverted her attention back to him "Hmmm?’
"Will you come with me?" he sounded like a little lost boy, she thought.
"Come with you where?" she asked
"Are you daft?" George rolled his eyes and started pulling her towards the little side area that served as a backstage and a front stage. "To audition of course, what d’you think?"
"Oh I dunno, I mean…" she trailed off and sighed "Oh why not, just don’t let Lennon anywhere near me"
"Sure" they plopped down with some other kids, in front of the ‘stage’. Paul caught Gabby’s eye and winked. She laughed and shook her head, ignoring the look George shot her.
As soon as it was over though (And John had slurred "Fucking goodnight to y’all, fucking...great night…") and the next band, the Spoons, hopped up on the stage it seemed the crowd of kids surged forward to get closer to the obvious favorite band. John had his arm around a red headed girl named Tracy who, Gabby reckoned was probably holding him up more then anything. The Quarry Men were raving about the injustice that a band called ‘the spoons’ could be better then them. That people could like such an idiotic name.
"Ello George" Paul said happily "Got something you want to show us?" the band’s small entourage dropped into the chairs around George and Gabrielle.
"Yeah," said George, smiling nervously, "All right John?"
"Wanker!" was john’s only reply, and George’s face promptly dropped into that all to familiar scowl.
"Look ignore him," said Paul quickly, at seeing George’s face, "Play us a tune, yeah?"
"Yeah" said George slowly "All right" he pulled his guitar case up on the table and pulled his instrument out, quickly checking the tuning.
John blinked and looked around the table, "Who’s this bird?" he asked gesturing at Gabrielle offhandedly. She tried not to glare at him or tell him to piss off.
"That’s George’s girl" said Paul quickly
Gabrielle pulled a face "No I’m not"
"You’re not?" asked Paul
"She’s not," said George "Just me friend" and with that he launched into ‘Raunchy’. And the look on John’s face, even in his drunken state, was priceless
