If They Only Knew
Gabby watched them al tune up and wow, this was rather boring actually. When they were in Hamburg they didn’t bother to tune up at all, they just played however the instruments were. But now Paul was repeatedly thwacking an E on the piano and George and John hummed and turned the pegs on the necks of their Rickenbackers.

It was dreadfully boring and routine.

Gabrielle reckoned she should have been pleased or distraught that Paul was writing song about her. It was nice of him, nice to know he thought about her a lot. But also rather distracting. He was bout to be all famous and such, why did he need her? Jane was much better for him, surly he saw that. And besides, he’d been mad for Jane when he saw her on television years ago. Surely.

Then John suggested All My Loving and George Martin moaned about the acoustics for a bit and then they started.

Close your eyes and I'll kiss you,
Tomorrow I'll miss you;
Remember I'll always be true.
And then while I'm away,
I'll write home ev'ry day,
And I'll send all my loving to you.

I'll pretend That I'm kissing
the lips I am missing
And hope that my dreams will come true.
And then while I'm away,
I'll write home ev'ry day,
And I'll send all my loving to you.

All my loving I will send to you.
All my loving, darling I'll be true.

Gabby decided to ignore John and go with the general census that that song was written about Jane. It was much less complicated that way. Much less.

Eryn entered the room then. She watched them play, a smile playing about her lips.

“Are you a fan?” Gabby asked her

“Oh” Eryn made a face “I’m a bit old, of course, but I think they’re just fab. You know?”

“Yeah” Gaby agreed “If I didn’t know them I think I’d just be mad over them”

“Who’s your favorite then?” Eryn laughed “If you didn’t know them, I mean”

“Oh, George. I love George” Gabby grinned

“Even if you hadn’t known them before?” Eryn pressed

Gabby frowned “What, before they were Beatles?”

Eryn nodded

Gabby sighed “Well… to be honest I can’t see that. George is just George… he’s not like Beatle George… well he is, but I think that’s just a bit mad… I can’t imagine not knowing George”

Eryn nodded “I heard this song was about you”

“It’s not.” Gabby said shortly “It’s about Jane Asher”

“Oh” Eryn sent her a funny look “So you must only be about nineteen or twenty… Do you go to University?”

“Er, not at the moment” Gabby giggled nervously. “I’m taking time off from NYU”

“Ah” Eryn nodded “Big school pressures. I know, I’m taking a year off as well, from Cambridge though”

Gabby whistled. An intelligent person in her midst. Best not to mention she wasn’t planning on going back to school. “Wow. You must be a genius. What was your major?”

“Not a genius” Eryn shrugged bashfully. “I’m an English Major, not all Cambridge folk have huge swelled brains you know”

Gabby laughed “That’s what you want me to think”

“Tell you what” Eryn giggled “If your just back in town you must not have very many friends outside of famous people” she exaggerated the words famous people a bit too much “I’m meeting some friends tonight, they’re heading down for the weekend… would you like to come along?”

Gabby looked into the booth at the Beatles. Normal friends. She laughed to herself, she didn’t need normal friends…. But why not. Perhaps when this all exploded it would be nice to know some normal people.
