Teacher’s Grade II Certificate and taught briefly for 6 months
in Nigeria, before proceeding to the Pontifical Lateran
University, Rome, Italy.
Prof. Ikegwuoha, Bernard-Thompson taught briefly at his Alma
Matter –Catholic Pontifical Lateran University, Rome, becoming
the first Black layperson to teach at any of the Catholic
Universities in Italy (1988 -1993). During his sojourn in Rome,
Italy (1981 -1994), Prof. Ikegwuoha served as President of many
Nigerian and African organizations in Rome, Italy where he
organized and participated in many seminars and symposia all
around Rome and its environs.
Prof. Ikegwuoha,
Bernard-Thompson, was elected Chairman, Obama Caucus
Presidential Campaign during the 2008 Presidential election, in
the 38th
Congressional Legislative District, Washington State.
Bernard was also elected as the Chairman, The Peoples Democratic
Party, [PDP], Washington State branch, in March 2002; Deputy
Chairman, PDP United States Chapter (2002-2004), and Chapter
Chairman, PDP United States, on January 13, 2007, in Boston,

PDP USA Chapter Website
& PDP USA Blog for
more information]
Prof. Ikegwuoha has taught American Government, Social &
Political Philosophy, Professional Ethics, Political Philosophy
& Political Theory, International Relations, Alternative World
Order, and Introduction to International Law & Legal Studies.
Others courses are: Politics & Government of Africa, Political
History & Postcolonial African Economic Development, Political
Science, International Relations, International Politics,
International Political Economy, and Introduction to Politics at
many Colleges and Universities.
Prof. Bernard-Thompson Ikegwuoha, a political activist in his
native country of Nigeria, has been a critic and voice against
coups d’état and military rule in Africa, has taught courses
on the Politics and Governments of Africa, with course contents
devoted to military rule in Africa. Ikegwuoha personally
organized public (mass) enlightenment campaign in many Nigerian
cities aimed at enlightening and empowering
Nigerians to demand political reforms, the restoration of
democracy, respect for civil and human rights and the
establishment and democratization of the institutions of
government, civil society, and
Free Market Economy. This battle by the Nigerian Diaspora "pro-democracy
movement advocates, and those of other
“Pro-Democracy Movements inside Nigeria was won, and it
culminated in the election of President Olusegun Obasanjo, as
the democratically elected President of Nigeria, on May 29,
1998; thus, bringing to an end, a long period of military rule
in Nigeria (1966 – 1979; 1983 – 1999), under an American modeled
Presidential System of Government.
Ikegwuoha, Bernard-Thompson is a distinguished and disciplined
scholar, professor, political scientist, politician, «political-strategist--tactician»,
public administrator and personnel management specialist and he
is an extraordinarily «down-to-earth»; generously kind,
humane, humble. He is a public servant dedication with proven
record of transparency in the discharge of duties, and
responsibilities –a man of impeccable integrity who is respected
by his students and colleagues alike.
Ikegwuoha, public and motivational speaker; very articulate,
eloquent and persuasively and passionately outspoken on issues
of social justice. He is a passionate defender of the oppressed,
and he has devoted his entire life fighting for "equal rights,"
and "justice" for all without distinction to race, ethnicity,
class, religious affiliation or gender - a call he has always
answered even when he is faced with some personal deprivations
and sacrifices.
In fact, if he despises anything or anybody, he is readily prone
to say so immediately. In fact, he is a pragmatist, a
“progressive and yet ideologically «centrist» in nature; he has
developed a practical approach to getting things done in a
bipartisan manner. Additionally, Prof. Ikegwuoha,
Bernard-Thompson is an administrator of people; a great
communicator, reconciliator and unifier of people, particularly
in a multicultural, multi-ethnic, multi-religious and
multi-racial environment.
The life of Ikegwuoha, Bernard-Thompson has been colorful, but
love or hate him, one thing is sure, he cannot be ignored
anywhere he is going by his reputation. For example, he
is known for being self-disciplined and his respect for humanity
is well known by all around him. He believes that: “civility
is not a sign of weakness”
JFK; and that "sincerity is always subject to proof"
-Therefore, “we must not negotiate out of fear, and we
should also not fear to negotiate.”-JFK.
