"Creation which cannot express itself becomes madness."

"We do not see things as they are, we see them as we are."

-from Seduction Of The Minotaur, page 124

I finally found the source of this amazing quotation! No one ever seemed to know where it came from exactly, only that it was credited to Anaïs. Dozens of people have written to me over the years asking me for the source of it; so here is the answer. I want to thank Noel Riley Fitch for this discovery. It was while reading her biography of Anaïs, "The Erotic life Of Anais Nin," that I discovered the source. She mentions it in chapter 7. This is an excellent biography, by the way. If haven't yet read this one, go out and get it.

In the older versions of this website, I had included some quotations without stating their exact source.  As time went on, I would discover interesting quotations from Anaïs on other websites and add them to my website, never knowing exactly where they came from.   I now include the exact source of every quotation that is on this website.  If you ever have any questions or comments about any of the quotations on this website, please feel free to contact me.

I have been very busy over the past couple of years since the birth of my daughter two years ago. Updating and adding to this website has always been at the back of my mind during this time. But I have recently been reading many of her books and diaries that I had not read yet. So, I guess that means I have a multitude of 'new' quotations to add here. Hopefully, I will have time in the near future to develop a new look and add to this website.

The quotations and photographs contained herein are copyright of the estate of Anaïs Nin and are used on
this website for the purpose of promoting her journals and her novels.
