CONTRIBUTIONS: One-time fashion model, showgirl, Broadway and screen actress, and radio personality who gained worldwide fame for her physical humor and unmatched comic timing. Best remebered as the dizzy redheaded star of the CBS television series I Love Lucy, which aired between 1951-1957. Ball was an astute businesswoman who controlled her own studio, Desilu Productions, from 1962-1967. CAUSE OF DEATH: Complications following surgery for repair of ruptured abdominal aorta. TRIBUTE: "Lucille Ball possessed the gift of laughter. But she also embodied an even greater treasure--the gift of love. She appealed to the gentler impulses of the human spirit.
