Spring Young Performers Company Show - "Schoolhouse Rock Live Jr"

Like the classic television series, Schoolhouse Rock Live! Junior is a hip, entertaining and educational treat that shows young people that learning can be as fun as you choose to make it. Xaverian Brothers High School Senior and long time Un-Common performer, Matt Timmons will be directing this great production for Un-Common's Young Performer's Group with musical direction by Paula Bishop.

Tom, a school teacher nervous about his first day of teaching, tries to relax by watching TV. Suddenly, the Schoolhouse Rock bunch appear in his rec room and proceed to show him how to win his students over with imagination and music, through beloved Schoolhouse Rock songs that cover a variety of subjects: math, science, history and grammar.

The production will take place at Qualters Middle School, Mansfield, on March 23, 24, and 25. Auditions will be held in on Monday, December 11th and on Tuesday, December 12th. Click HERE for audition information.

Spring Show - "To Kill A Mocking Bird"

For the first time in a number of years, Un-Common is excited to offer an opportunity for young actors to be involved in a straight play, as opposed to our usual musical offerings. Dramatized by Christopher Sergel from the book by Harper Lee, this play is a meaningful work of art.

Scout, a young girl in a quiet southern town, in 1935 is about to experience the dramatic events that will affect the rest of her life. She and brother Jem are being raised by their widower father Atticus. Wide-eyed Scout is fascinated with the people of her small town but there's a rumble of thunder just under the calm surface of the life here.  The black people of the community have a special feeling about Scout's father and she doesn't know why. A few of her white friends are inexplicably hostile and Scout doesn't understand this either. Unpleasant things are shouted and the bewildered girl turns to her father. Atticus, a lawyer, explains that he's defending a young Negro wrongfully accused of a grave crime. Things get bitter; to the point where Atticus props himself in a chair against the cell door of the man he's defending and confronts an angry mob. Horrified Scout projects herself into this confrontation and her inconvenient presence helps bring back a little sanity. Atticus fights his legal battle with a result that is part defeat, part triumph.

The show will be directed by Meg Dussault and will be presented at The Orpheum Foxboro on April 27-29, 2007. Auditions will be held in January 2007. Keep checking for audition details.
