1. Knowledge Center for Sustainable Food Security : MSSRF - M S Swaminathan Reserach Foundation , is carrying out an experimental project in villages in Pondicherry (about 160 kilometres from Chennai) called "Knowledge Center for Sustainable Food Security". The center provides information to local rural people according to their needs and demands using both analogue wireless technologies and dial-up Internet connections. Information is tailored to local needs, especially relating to women and children. Local rural people can also see a directory of government projects, health issues, prices of agricultural produce, information on public events, local transportation schedules, crop insurance projects and a directory of hospitals and medical practitioners.

2. Hole in the Wall : Sugata Mitra from NIIT conducted an experiment in the slum areas of Delhi. A computer screen and a control stick were placed in the wall of a poor slum. Within minutes, the children that started playing around with this mysterious object found out how hyperlinks worked, and within a week they had figured out how to write a few words without a keyboard, how to drag and drop documents, and how to browse the Internet.

3. Gyandoot Project ,Soochanalaya of Dhar district, Madya Pradesh : Local communities have been wired with an intranet. People can now directly deal with the government online. The Soochanalaya has enabled villagers to check prices in other mandis before selling their crop. Thus avoiding being cheated by local traders. Getting land record for bank loans is now a easy process. Previoulsy people had to run around and grease numerous palms. Now all the applications can be sent online. The whole Dhar district has been wired for as little as Rs. 25 lakh.

4. Warna Wired Village Project: The $600,00 network funded by the central government provides 70 villages with computers and connectivity to a central server.Through the network farmers get a daily weather report, learn what fertilizers to use, and access the sale price of several other crops, which helps them decide what to plan for next cultivation and check their bills for sugarcane sale to the nearby sugarcane factory. Soon, they will be able to use the network to diagnose crop diseases. In one particular village alone, 450 farmers are using computer to access required information saving time, avoiding mistakes and boosting their productivity.

5. www.TARAhaat.com :Brings relevant information, products and services via the internet to the underserved rural market. The site content is in the local language of the region. For those who cannot read, animated picturs, self-explanatory diagrams and voice commands will be available.
