Malachi Isley II
Malachi II Isley was born about 1769 and probably died sometime between 1860 and 1870. He married Katie “Kitty” Harte. She was born May 1771 and died November 7, 1847, and is buried at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. In l850, Malachi is listed as living alone, age 80, and owning real estate valued at $2,000.  In the 1860 census, he is listed as age 89 with real estate valued at $1,000 and a personal estate valued at $10,000. We can find no census record for him in 1870. No grave for Malachi II can found; however, there are many graves without markers at St. Paul’s. We believe he was probably also buried at St. Paul’s.

The children of Malachi II Isley and Katie Harte Isley are believed to be:

1.  Malachi Isley III, born circa 1793, married Mary (Polly) Loy, born circa 1793 while they lived in Orange County, North Carolina.  According to the Orange County Marriage Records, a Melicah Isley Jr. and Polly Loy posted a marriage bond on 16 August 1810.  The Bondsman was Henry Loy, Junior.  He and his family moved to  Illinois 1833-1834.  On 1 January 1840, Malachi Iseley (of Bond County, Illinois) was granted a land patent for "the east half of the south east quarter of section twenty three in township seven north of range three west of the third principal meridian in the District of Lands subject to sale at Edwardsville, Illinois, containing eighty acres".  Before the enumeration of the 1840 Census, Malachi, and at least the families of Lavinia and her husband Jarrot Wright, and Ellen and her husband, Green Nichols/Nicholson moved to Horsehead Township, Johnson County, Arkansas as indicated by the 1840 Census Extract provided in Appendix 12 Addendum.  Malachi purchased land in Johnson County, Arkansas on 10 March 1843.  Jarrot/Jaret Wright also purchased land in Johnson County on 10 July 1844.   According to the 1840 Census, Elizabeth and her husband, James Snow, Stanford Isley, Mary Polly and her husband, James Johnson Wright, remained in Illinois.  Circa 1849-1850, Malachi III and two of his sons moved to Hopkins County Texas.  We do not know if he moved directly to Texas from Arkansas or made an intermediate stop.  Not later than 15 April 1853, Malachi III moved from Texas to Missouri.  On this date he was granted a Land Patent in Newton County, Missouri.  Additionally, Emanuel, Yancey (probably Bartlet-see discussion in the Bartlet section in Appendix 12 Addendum), and Elenor (Ellen) are listed in the 1860 Census as Heads of Households in Shoal Township, Newton County, Missouri.  I have been unable to find any record of Malachi III later than the 1853 Missouri Land Patent.

2.  Elizabeth Isley was born 30 January 1794 in North Carolina, and died 6 March 1870 in Illinois.  She married Frederick Daniel Kimbrough on 11 December 1813 in Orange County, North Carolina; Malicay Isley as bondsman.  He was born 2 May 1788 in North Carolina, and died 2 May 1855 in Bond County, Illinois.  Story from Sherry Stowers:  They left Guilford County, North Carolina with an ox team and covered wagon in March 1836 and arrived near Mulberry Grove, Bond County, Illinois in September 1836. The family name changed from Kimbrough to Kimbro. (NOTE:  This is the timeframe when Malachi Isley III, the brother of Elizabeth, and his family migrated to Illinois.)  The family name changed from Kimbrough to Kimbro.  (NOTE:  The spelling for Frederick was KIMBRO in the 1820, 1830, and 1840 Censuses.)

3.  David Isley was born Bet. 1795 - 1802 in North Carolina, and died Bef. 1840 in North Carolina.  He married Sarah Graves 19 April 1820 in Orange County, North Carolina, marriage bond, daughter of John Graves and Turley Coble.  She was born Abt. 1790 in North Carolina, and died Aft. 1870 in North Carolina.

4.  Christian Isley was born March 3, 1796 and died April 13, 1882. Christian donated the land for the present day Friendship United Methodist Church and is buried there. He married Nancy Whitesell who was born September 5, 1802 and died December 9, 1869. Their marriage bond was posted in Orange County, North Carolina on August 17, 1822. She is buried at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

5.  John Isley was born Abt. 1800 according to census record analyses. It is not certain that John was a son of Malachi II. Reverend Offman wrote of John Isley, son of Malachi II, as "went West".  No other information has been uncovered.

6.  Catherine Hart Isley, born circa 1802 in Orange County, and in circa 1822 married Julius Hardy Loy, born circa 1799 in Orange County.  On 8 May 1847 Julius Hardy Loy married Mary Flack, born circa 1797.  The parents of Julius Hardy Loy are Henry Loy and Sophia Albright.  We should note that on 16 August 1810, Henry Loy Junior signed the Marriage Bond for Melicah Isley Junior (Malachi Isley III), the brother of Catherine, to marry Polly Loy.  Additionally, Peter Loy, the son of Catherine and Hardy, was living with Malachi Isley II, the father of Catherine, in 1860.  Reverend Offman only writes "Katy Isley m. Handy Loy".

7.  Mary Isley was born Abt. 1808 in Orange County, North Carolina, and died Aft. 1880 in probably Minnesota.  She married William Fogleman on 31 March 1829 in Orange County, North Carolina, John Wason was bondsman.  He was born Abt. 1806 in Orange County, North Carolina, and died Aft. 1880 in probably Minnesota. Mary and William Fogleman were enumerated in Parke County, Indiana in 1840 and 1850. They were then enumerated in Independence, Hennepin County, Minnesota 1860 through 1880.

8.  Henry Isley was born circa 1809 and died after 1870, presumably in Kansas. He married Molly Isley of Jacob of Philip of Malachi. She was born circa 1813 and also died after 1870, presumably in Kansas. Henry and Molly are enumerated in Sheridan Twp, Cherokee County, Kansas in 1870. See

9.  Jacob Isley was born circa 1812 and married Lucy Isley born circa 1819, and Christine Hornaday, born circa 1815
