Philip Isley
1751 - 1842
Philip Isley was born 1751 in Pennsylvania and died March 9, 1842 in Gwinnett County, Georgia. The name of his first wife is not known. His second wife was Mary Ann Cameron, born circa 1773 in Scotland. Their marriage bond was posted March 20, 1816 in Orange County, North Carolina. Philip and Mary Ann moved to Gwinnett County, Georgia in 1822. Philip is probably buried at Fairview Presbyterian Church in Lawrenceville, Gwinnett County, Georgia. See Georgia Migrations.

According to The Malachi Isley Story by Rex M. Isley, Philip volunteered to serve as a Light Horseman in the Revolutionary War. In the later part of 1777, he was drafted and served in the Infantry. The information further states that he served in three major battles: Battle of Camden (South Carolina), August 16, 1780; Battle of Guilford Courthouse, March 15, 1781; and Battle of Eutaw Springs (South Carolina), September 8, 1781.

Under the provisions of the Revolutionary Claim Act of June 7, 1832, Philip began the process for his Revolutionary War Pension by his testimony of September 25, 1832. His pension was subsequently approved September 13, 1833 as listed below:
REPORT FROM THE SECRETARY OF WAR IN RELATION TO THE PENSION ESTABLISHMENT OF THE UNITED STATES 1835 (Report from the Secretary of War in Obedience to Resolutions of the Senate of the 5th and 30th of June, 1834 and the 3rd of March, 1835 in Relation to the Pension of Establishment of the United States, Washington:  Duff Green, 1835.)

1.  MARTIN ISLEY was born June 21, 1780 and died June 30, 1859. He is buried at Mt. Hermon Methodist Church. He married Catherine Apple who was born about 1784-1785. Catherine probably died 1870-1880. She was enumerated with her son Martin Isley and Mary Polly Coble Isley in 1870. The Descendants of Martin Isley and Mary Polly Coble can be found on my
Family Tree Maker site. Martin and Catherine’s marriage bond was posted in Orange County on December 20, 1801. A photograph of Martin Isley's tombstone can be found here.

2.  JACOB ISLEY was born circa 1782. He married Elizabeth Councilman. Their marriage bond was posted June 20, 1809 with Peter Boggs as bondsman. We do not know when either Jacob or Elizabeth died or where they are buried. Jacob wrote his last Will and Testament on April 14, 1853.

3.  SALLY POLLY ISLEY married William Isley of George of Malachi. Their marriage bond was posted November 24, 1823.

Philip Isley and Mary Ann Cameron Isley had a daughter:

4.  MARY ANN ISLEY  was born in 1822 in Gwinnett County, Georgia and died in Alamance County, North Carolina in 1896. She married Jordan Neese who was born April 13, 1820 and died June 20, 1896. They are both buried at Mt. Hermon Methodist Church.
Philip is believed to have held lands in Orange County (now Alamance) as indicated in blue to the left. See Georgia migrations for more information about his move to Georgia.
