A Poem
by Catherine Stockbridg
e

A Diamond's brilliance outshines all nature's handiwork,
But its luster veils an adamantine coldness
A Pearl's warmth is of a more gentle nature,
It's inner glow suggests a depth of beauty
So glittering Pride provides a beauteous cover
That hides its truth for those who look not deeply
But Love is marked by noble modesty
That, like the Pearl, is more than merely obvious.

We caught the clean rain
On our tin roofs
and slept so well
in the summer rains
the early, we are still young, rains where the solitude is still sacred
the solitude of ourselves so young
so innocent
like the clean rain
on the tin roof
like the sound
of all those raindrops
only falling once

Poem inspired by the art work of Frank Messa.

In a blinking of an eye,
Sometimes we are secrets
And sometimes we are not,
And sometimes its just always the beginning
In the experience of innocence.

"So America is proud of their homeless Mother."
By Jacqueline Howett. (c)  Copyright 2002

America clean up your streets. The Greta Garbo's still live on while this generation pierce bones through their own noses. There is also a beautiful Old Italian lady--yes lady with sudden misfortune when her husband died, is vulnerable and confused by her changing society. She must ramble for cans down the garbage to live. I can only look with discust now upon this motto. "proud to be American", for this is your Mother.  So what president cares? I long for the day garbage cans with dignity becomes  paid work by a proper system. But most of all a system of proper support for every  American women and  mother.  Lets make it America, a home of compassion & understanding. You know they  don't belong out there. In our times for down playing prosperity in the face of the rest of the world, why must our society keep her homeless with scare tactics for the rest to work or else, And to  breed cold hearts, to be tougher to survive? No, this should not be any American mothers fate to be living in these civilian trenches. How can you eat an expensive meal outside and not notice? You ignore her, then you ignore what it truely means to be American.  Lets get our people out of the garbage.

TIME by Jemma Lilley(Jenny Gulino) (c) 1996-2002
(Written during a dark time.)

Time
An abstract essence
a clock
The devil's tool
youth diminished
second by precious second
Escape?
You can never escape from time
Its presence felt..
forever!
(More of Jemma's work coming soon.)
