HYPOCRISY
ok- what the fuck is this? I found a copy of USA Weekend with Ludacris and Toby Keith claiming that hip hop, rap and country music are the only TRUE music genres in America today. They've obviously fogotten the fact that the music they write has nothing in common with the country, hip hop or rap of ten years ago-back when those genres of music were "true". Apparrantly then, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson were not true country musicians. Apparrantly Run DMC, NWA, Cypress Hill, Dr. Dre and Snoop are not considered true rap/hip hop then. You don't take a form of artistic expression, turn it into fashion, and then proclaim that everything else out there is fake. Hell, I guess mEkanikal sOul is not true music, my band Abandoned Chaos is not true music, b/c we're not selling 50 million albums every year. That's how it seems to me with small minded people proclaiming other music genre's are not "true." Sorry I'm not into commercializing what I do to make more money. SORRY FOR NOT SELLING OUT MY MUSIC TO POP CULTURE. Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with hip hop, rap, country music, the blues, jazz, whatever else there is out there- except emo and nu rock, I don't hate the music of Ludacris or Toby Keith, but I feel offended that underground metal, industrial music, synthpop, ebm, darkwave, gothrock, real punk, hardcore, jazz and the blues are not considered are being true music genre's in America. However, without the blues, without classic rock, without classical music, without tribal music, NONE of what these two bastards do would exist. Once again we see the narrow-mindedness of country musicians. Here's an interesting thought- maybe someone who makes music for the love of doing music and is talented could have a No.1 album, instead of somebody in it for the money? The interview went on to piss me off even more with these quotes-"Rap and Hip Hop are about bringing people together to your neighborhood and talking about what happens there.Country music is about the same thing-writing about where you're from"-Ludacris, Toby Keith-"In grade school, my teacher gave us an hour to make up a story and write it down. Other guys would be done in 15 minutes and maybe get a page down. But I'd take the whole hour and just write, write, write. My teacher called my mom and said I was crafty at this and loved doing it, to encourage it. My mom was like, 'what's he going to do with it? He's not going to be a writer. We live in oil-field country.' But I knew songwriting and performing were my way out of those oil fields." HOW THE FUCK IS HE WRITING ABOUT WHERE HE CAME FROM WHEN HIS GOAL WAS TO LEAVE IT ALL BEHIND?? My thoughts- he can't. I live in fucking IOWA and I'm not trying to leave here because this is my home. I have family and friends, I'm not going to be a pussy and move out to L.A. and write popular music, I'm going to stay in Iowa, work shit jobs until my music is lucrative enough I don't need to work a day job to pay the bills anymore, and I will deal with what life gives me, because I am writing the music that I love, not what the public wants.
