We got the Late Late Show host's mobile number and rang him at random for a week

Monday, 10:03 a.m.
"I'm sitting in my favorite place-in the den of my new house, next to my antique lamp.  I've decided to like the lamp a lot because it cost me a small bundle-more than my first
car, a Toyota Tercel.  Sometimes I'll even take the lamp out with me."

Monday, 11:19 a.m.
"I'm at my office and I've got a close-up view of the two cucumber slices resting on my eyes.  I have many rituals to stay centered and calm.  Like, I get a weekly massage from this strong German woman who comes to my house."

Tuesday, 11:43 a.m.
"Last night I dreamed about my lamp.  I'm worried about my obsession, but I don't need a therapist.  I talk to America every night-that's my therapy.  [Call waiting] Vince Vaughn's on the other line.  He's about to go shopping and wants to know what to wear.  He's always asking me to help him with that.  I've got to go talk to him."

Wednesday, 10:33 a.m.
"I have to get a replacement valet key for my BMW-my Bavarian Motor Vehicle.  It's a silver 740iL, but I'll be leasing a black one in a few months."

Wednesday, 8:53 p.m.
"I'm having my annual dinner with [CBS president] Les Moonves at the Palm.  People are coming by, and this one star-I don't want to mention his name, but he was in a little film called
Happy Gilmore-swung by to buy me a drink.  They're going to put my caricature up on the wall here.  I just hope they don't put it next to Donna Mills's."

Thursday, 11:32 p.m.
"I just got home from Les Deux Cafe on Las Palmas, where I ran into a guy who recently did my show [Tim Roth].  He came up to tell me he had a really nice time.  Stars seem to have the best time being interviewed by me.  I guess it's my Midwestern roots.  I'm just a relaxed, nice guy."

Friday, 10:28 a.m.
"I'm back from the Farmers Market, where I had a chai latte and smoked a breakfast cigar.  I try to limit my cigars to the weekends.  I've been smoking since '88, and they help me relax.  I need to stay relaxed because I really need to turn it on for America for one hour every night."

Friday, 10:08 p.m.
"It's been a solid week of shows, and I'm with a friend at the Polo Lounge in booth one-the Humphrey Bogart/Howard Hughes/Ava Gardner booth.  It's not
my table, but they like me here a lot.  I usually order the swordfish and the Grand Marinier souffle`.  Chocolate bores me to tears.  The piano player is playing Polka Dots and Moonbeams, which is my request."

Saturday, 1:49 p.m.
"I'm lounging by my pool listening to Bob Marley from my faux rock speakers."

Saturday, 11:52 p.m.
"I just had dinner at this Italian place, Madeo.  The French bartender there always gets me to try a lot of different red wines.  I'm going to bed."

Sunday, 11:14 a.m.
"This bee is driving me crazy.  I'm sitting outside at the Chateau Marmont having breakfast...mmm, Gruye`re...and this bee just touched my bacon!  [Julia Stiles comes over to chat about an incident on the show.]  You know who that was?  I almost didn't recognize her.  She's cool."

Monday, 12:52 p.m.
"I realize I talk a lot about my meals, but that's only because you can't reach me during the show.  So my life sounds either glamorous or redundant.  Anyway, I'm proud of you.  That's just my way of saying 'Take care' or 'So long.'  It's something I invented, but Vince Vaughn says he's stolen it from me.  He likes to use it sometimes.  He's a good kid, a good guy."
