Welcome to Jen's online art portfolio! The album has been reorganized to make things a bit less cluttered. Here are directions how to use the new album... You will need IE or NS 4.0 or higher for this to work properly.

PAINTINGS
This was started using a black outline and was then filled in with color. Everyone in class had a great looking painting using this process. Print 1 of 1 - Painted on plexiglas and printed onto soaked rag paper. This began as a glue print, which I later colored with oil pastels. This is an acrylic painting from my freshman year. This is my first try at a self portrait. It took a lot of encouragement because I dont usually like painting people... This is a watercolor. Dont ask why, but for some reason it reminds me of jazz music. Here is a detail of that watercolor. I had a lot of fun painting this. I only used one acrylic color and diluted it to create many tones of brown. It only took a few minutes to finish. We had fun at my high school grad party. Yup, they painted a dinosaur mural on our garage! Hehehe!

PAPER/COLLAGE
I am fascinated by those geometric black and white shapes! A recent assignment for my Art and Visual Learning class. This is cut construction paper, and it looks really neat as stained glass! This is titled Trust Betrayal - Coming Full Circle. This was created at a not so shiny happy time in my life. More of those funky black and white geometrics... This is Trust Betrayal. The text reads: Love! Love? Love! Love? Love! Love? Love! Love? Love! Love? Love! Love? - trust betray hope disbelief pleasure confusion animosity lies doubt amour malice - Love? Disregard your emotions. Question everything. Avoid regret. Contradict yourself. This is an assigment from Art Satellite. We were to create an impossible museum scene. I used only black and white pieces.

PHOTOGRAPHY
Another scene from Spencer Lake... One of my favorite sculptures at the Bradley Sculpture Garden Here's our backyard in winter! I took this the Summer of 98. There were 3 butterflies, but only one would pose for a photo shoot... This is my friends son, eating cat food at one of our parties... Hehehehe This was taken on a retreat to Spencer Lake in April of 99. As you can see it was a beautiful place. The only problem was that I used most of my film outside, so I have hardly any pics of the people who were with me. Ooops! This is a scene of the Milwaukee Art Museum and Lake Michigan from about 1996. I was in the Fall 1996 Art Satellite class at the Milwaukee Art Museum. This is my class! Im the one in the hippy pants :o) This is opening night of the Art Satellite exhibtion.

EL DIA DE LOS MUERTOS
This is an ofrenda created in November 1997. This was set up in the Milwaukee Art Museum for Family Sundays. Jose Chavez lended the artwork. This ofrenda is in memory of my great-grandmother. A photograph of her and my great-grandfather is at the center. Some of her favorite things were placed on the ofrenda, complete with fried chicken and cornbread. Jose and I worked together to set this up. - Photo Credit: Joanne K. Peterson Another ofrenda set up in 1999 at the Milwaukee Art Museum. The kids contributed artwork to display. Seeing the photo in color really gives you a better idea of just how vivid everything is. That is Jose at right. He also did demonstrations of papel picado, paper cutting. He makes his own tools and cuts through about 30 sheets of tissue paper at a time, creating beautiful designs. This ofrenda was set up at the United Community Center in November 1998. I got to set this one up on my own. The flowers, skeletons and other artwork was contributed by Family Sunday participants. This ofrenda was dedicated to relatives of Family Sunday participants who have passed away
