As you can see from the name change, my days as an AmeriCorps have ended. Now what? Journey with me as I try and answer that all-encompassing question. | ||||||||||||||||||||

Tuesday, December 14, 2004 Good morning! I finally got my stuff from the Pampered Chef (I had ordered from Mrs. Pampered Chef while at the Harvest Festivel back in October)! My very own uber-wirewisk and my prize: the delux cheese grater. How exciting! I actually was quite productive yesterday, and did Habitat-related almost the entire day! I really love my new hours: 10:00am to 4:00pm. From 8:30 to 10:00 and 4:00 to 5:00 is when I was the least productive anyway. Now I just come in, do the work, and go home. Rock on. Job Front: I applied to City Year yesterday. No, not as an AmeriCorps, but as a staff member on a national level. It's a position located in Boston, the very first City Year City. I found it on Idealist.org, and then spent the next hour browsing apartment listings on Craig's List and dreaming of a small apartment/studio on Beacon Hill. The position is "Special Projects Assistant to the Senior Vice President of External Affairs." Impressive, no? And what are the duties of this position? Well, to keep it short: many, many things from assisting in the organization of nation-wide City Year conferences to putting stamps on envelopes. I think it would be great! Random Amusement: So, I'm listening to Fresh Air--after running frantically to the AC Moore & Crafts (my favorite craft store!) to buy an arm-load of little ornaments for the kids to decorate tonight at the shelter--and who is Terry Gross interviewing? John Waters. Why? He has a Christmas Album: A John Waters Xmas! Basically, according to John, these are all the great and (mostly obscure) Christmas songs he loves and has fond memories of. I totally want this CD. I mean, take these two titles as an example: "Santa is a Black Man" and "Fat Daddy Christmas." I have to go buy it--job or no job. It's Christmas, and some things are non-negotiable. |

Wednesday, December 15, 2004 I'm finally getting around to putting up a few photos from Kelly's Wedding. And the presents I ordered from Cafe Press arrived yesterday! They turned out really well. My journal is especially nice looking, I feel. Go, buy, be good American consumer citizens! On the Habitat front, I have started tackling the Dedication Booklet project. The problem--if you want to call it that--is that there are many more volunteers that helped on Paine Street than in past years, and modifying the booklet template to get them to all fit is proving difficult. But, I'm enjoying the work. This is my kind of thing. |
