ANNOUNCEMENTS:

December 1, 2002 - Movieline magazine (December/January 2003 issue, page 10) has an interview with young actress Joy Bryant, starring in upcoming movie Antwone Fisher being directed by first-time director and Oscar winner Denzel Washington. When asked "what do you find luxurious?", Joy answered "Getting a facial, manicure and pedicure. And wearing Manolo Blahniks - like every girl, I love those shoes".

I find that to be a very powerful statement. Having a woman who considers Manolo Blahnik (spiked heel) shoes as being luxurious and admittedly loving them is a credit to Manolo Blahnik.

December 9, 2001 - 1) Movieline magazine (December/January 2002 issue) has both Halle Berry and Michael Michele wearing awesome thigh-high high heel boots. Halle Berry, starring in upcoming movie Monster's Ball with Billy Bob Thornton, is wearing boots by Michel Perry. Michael Michele, starring as boxing legend Muhammad Ali's third wife Veronica Porsche in upcoming movie Ali with Will Smith, is wearing boots by Dolce & Gabbana.

2) People Weekly magazine (November 26, 2001 issue) highlighted thigh-high boots in its StyleWatch feature, with Victoria Secret model Heidi Klum wearing some eye popping blue suede thigh-high boots with high heels.

3) Rockport, the Canadian company that specializes in lightweight comfort shoes, introduces a very nice pair of boots with 3 inch or so thick heels and square toe box. These boots are part of their women's dress Modernist series, advertised in Talk magazine (November 2001 issue) and available at select Macy's.

4) Yves Saint Laurent has spectacular Spanish Western-looking high heel boots. They are reported in Talk magazine (September 2001 issue, page 92) as "Black Leather Embroidered Boots" with a $3,900.00 US price tag. It is also mentioned that there is a waiting list for them.

September 30, 2001 - In 1986, Melda Marcos and her husband President Ferdinand Marcos fled the Philippines for Hawaii. The new president Corazon Aquino revealed Melda's vast shoe collection, having left behind 3,000 pairs of size 81/2 shoes in the basement of Malacanang Palace. A large portion of the shoes were fashion high heels fitting for any president's wife.

Islands magazine (Novemeber 2001 issue) reports on a new Marikina Shoe Museum that opened last February in Manila, the capital of the Philippines. The museum houses over 200 pairs of Melda's shoes that were left in the presidential palace. Furthermore, the magazine reports that Mrs. Marcos now owns more than 3,000 pairs of shoes in her current collection.

"High Heel Fashion Wear" includes all styles that normally can be worn and accepted in public places, especially at work, at any time (day or night). In general, high heel fashion footwear have heels up to 5 inches high. These styles usually look good on teenage girls and women, including older looking women.

Fashion wear includes all designer high heel footwear worn by "fashion models", who set the trend for all girls and women to wear. This, of course, includes all formal evening wear shoes with high heels.

This category also includes high heel shoes and boots that are advertised in mainstream magazines and newspapers that are suitable for reading by teenage girls. Furthermore, this category includes high heels that are sold in normal brick-and-mortar shoe stores, except for Frederick's of Hollywood, Victoria's Secret, lingerie stores, and fetish stores.

WHO ARE THE PRIMARY USERS?

MODELS:

Models wear high heel fashion footwear for fashion merchandise buyers, footwear catalogs, and in advertisements. They help set the standard for what the current fashion footwear is for all girls and women.

It would be interesting to know what percentage of these models like high heel footwear? Also, how many of these models would wear high heels, if they were not paid to do so?

ACTRESSES & SINGERS & A TRIBUTE TO MARILYN NONROE: <<<<<<<<<< Added Spetember 9, 2001

Not all actresses and singers wear high heels, but the best ones do at least occasionally. Visit my MOVIES and STARS webpages for the names of many of them.

Over the last century, the most famous female entertainer was arguably Marilyn Monroe (whose name at birth was Norma Jean Mortenson). At the very least, Marilyn was one of Hollywood's biggest and most glamorous movies stars.

Her tragic death, when she only 36 years old in 1962, has frozen her image for all time. Her memorabilia is still sold and treasured by many. You may remember seeing one of her pop posters, especially the one with her in a pair of white fashion high heels and skirt blowing up.

It is very unlikely that Marilyn Monroe would ever have become such a mega-star without wearing high heels. Just imagine her all dressed up in flats.

On the other hand, Marilyn did as much for high heels as high heels did for her career. Pictures of Marilyn in high heels has provided some of the best advertising for high heels. Marilyn was reportedly 5'5 1/2" tall and had a shoe size of 7AA (US).

GIRLS AND WOMEN:

There are over three billion girls and women around the world. Normally, they try to wear whatever the current footwear fashion is in their community and usually, current fashion includes some styles with high heels in most countries.

Girls and women, who choose to wear fashion high heels, come from all walks of life including different occupations, different social statuses - from the poor to the wealthy, and so on. They usually wear their fashion high heels as the occasion dictates and/or because they want to look good or they like the look of the footwear.
