Truckee History
The USS Truckee AO-147 was commissioned at the Naval Ship Yard, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1955. The Truckee was named after the Truckee River, in western Nevada and eastern California. The Truckee River was named after an Indian Chief who in 1844 led a party of lost, thirsty pioneers to the lower crossing of the river. Truckee's overall lentgh is 655 feet and 10 iches, her beam is 86 feet 4 inches and she Displaces 38,000 tons. Decommissioned,

The Maritime Administration just released the following - The USS Truckee AO/TAO 147 has been sold to a Virginia firm for Dismanteling. The Ship sold for $1.2 Million. Click on the link below to see some photos of The Truckee in the scrapyard waiting to begin the process.
